A pretty miserable 13C with rain in the Manchester area currently, probably at least another hour of rain to come then time to clear the standing water puddles. If they take early lunch they could get a clearer slot for early afternoon at least.

What is it that "Root knew" that's set Corporal Cowardice off on another tantrum?

England picking a player imbued with omniscience. Which is an odd claim given what Root did to Archer

The non-catch off Smith that Root didn't claim but which went upstairs. He's trying to turn it into a "Root claimed a catch he knew was grounded! Spirit of cricket hypocrites!" thing.

I had considered that it was the catch that Root took and didn't claim or celebrate but dismissed it on the basis that nobody would be stupid enough to make it Root claimed it. Once again, I have overestimated Australia's
Special Forces.

Didn't Root say he thought he'd caught it? He just didn't appeal in demonstrative fashion, which might only have been hang on a sec I might at least make them have a look piece of thinking
Give where his fingers were it could well have been a catch. Just once that's gone upstairs for a check there's no way it's being given, and quite reasonably so.

He knew he hadn't caught it and did nothing to stop the appeal going upstairs. Hypocrisy and mendacity from Root. But what can you expect from a country that once had Perfidious as a nickname. The bonfire that is England today

The Aussies deserve to lose this series purely because they're playing such awful, negative cricket. This 7/8/9 men on the boundary shit is just a symptom of a complete lack of ideas on how to play England when they bat aggressively. It's dreadful stuff. I can't imagine Border, Taylor or Ponting having so little imagination.
Agreed. They would have attacked.
With the fielders set there, anything that was playable by the batsmen would have been 2 or 3 every ball and so you effectively have to bowl 6 "wides" an over. McGrath would have refused to have bowled that sh*t.

Clearly he didn't know as his immediate reaction showed he wasn't sure. The "appeal" didn't go upstairs - the umpires thought it was best to check given no one was sure what happened. This is something that happens frequently in cricket and is exactly how it should be, much better than players enthusiastically claiming catches they have doubt about. You should watch it more regularly, then you wouldn't come across as such an idiot all the time.

Labushagne is a great flat track bully but can't play English conditions. He and Smith falling to the least likely bowler to take a wicket this series was at least as dim as anything Eng have been accused of.
Labuschagne is in poor form but he's got an incredible record in English conditions
I hadn't appreciated how poor. One fifty in his last 16 Test innings is dire stuff.
England were frustrated for a long period by Labuschagne, who made only his second overseas Test hundred

Game is easy when you play well and get to choose at the toss 4 out of 4.
Aussie would have batted first both times for the last 2 tests, I reckon
Not at Headingly....that was always going to be a bowl first with the overhead in the morning and expected weather.
Manchester....was probably a bowl first as well. That was certainly what the pundits were saying would happen.

Once again. Bullshit. If Root didn't claim it why was he gesturing with his finger in a that's out motion or a let's take a look upstairs. He knew it wasn't out but did quite enough to not give that impression. The duplicitous prick. The entitlement and hypocrisy never ends. They are down 2-1 on their home soil and are now in grave danger of not regaining the Ashes on home soil once again. Like the last time. And when was the last time you actually won a series in Australia.? Or even 1 test match Lol.
