I love the way Aussie are dealing with these little shits - eye-watering fines.

Would any of these nurses record themselves on Youtube? Maybe record the doctor telling the family their 35 year old son is too sick to go to ICU? That kind of message needs to global.
Although there’s a good chance many still won’t care.
NHS staff are still being warned of disciplinary action for going on record about covid
What a great time to pull a bluff on the tie-wearers and ALL do it. Doctors and nurses record details of their last shift and put it onto social media. What can the bosses do then?

What they always do; fuck up their career prospects; make sure they get the shittest of shit duties; put them on worst rosters; deny them their basic rights on holidays; & generally make their lives miserable..
Much better to ask them to leak to the press, just what they should request in their FoI requests, & make it impossible for these trusts to deny the press access to the information that shows the true state of affairs, rather than the air brushed version that #10 prefers.
One of the joys of Brexit will probably be that whistleblowers will no longer get the protection they deserve

First non trial doses of the AZ 'Oxford' vaccine given today.
Will be very limited amounts today as just being given in some hospitals so reactions can be monitored.

You can still fly into the UK without any checks from a variety of overseas destinations.
Our government talks tough on immigration and muses plans to use nets and water cannons to stop migrants in the channel but wont implement a travel ban for health reasons...its maddening.

Which destinations? I know police were knocking on doors making sure people who came from south Africa were isolating just before Christmas.

Does seem mad that there still isn't a proper quarantine/testing regime at airports. Understandable in March but not now.

Former Health Secretary not beating about the bush!
Jeremy Hunt, the former Conservative health secretary who now chairs the Commons health committee, is calling for what would effectively be a full lockdown in England now. He says schools and borders should be closed, and all household mixing banned, immediately. He says delaying even for a day will cause “many avoidable deaths”.

Both Johnson and Hancock have both said new restrictions are coming in as many words so I figure they're either (a) planning new fiscal support and won't lockdown without that e.g. bailing out universities or (b) want to look like they're trying to keep schools open so that the unions can be blamed rather than the politicians. And then just shut them next week when the unions have started court action (which they're already doing according to my sister the teacher)

Seriously, what's wrong with Boris and his cabinet of incompetents?!
He's now said that there is 'no question' that stricter measures are on their way. So what are those measures, when will they be implemented, what do people/businesses need to plan for, and what the hell are they waiting for?
There's no clear communication, but they're encouraging speculation and uncertainty.
Lockdowns will harm the economy, but the uncertainty is at least as harmful, and at least lockdowns should save lives.
Absolutely shockingly poor governing, even by the standards of recent years and months.

Wonder if schools are going to shut. If so, I wonder what exactly was learned in this single day, vs how many new covid infections we've managed to spread to various households.

Schools will be shut. Like you say, crazy to have allowed so many back after the break for one day, given this was inevitable.

Plenty didn't though. If I had sent my son in today, rather than telling them he's not going in for a couple of weeks, I'd be PISSED! I suspect a lot of teachers will be too.

Just back from a pre-planned trip to Sainsbury’s.,. About 2.15 the place suddenly got rammed and a very stressed atmosphere. Staff completely caught unawares to far too many folk and huge queues at tills.
I was getting something when an odd chap pulled up next to me and the boy. He suddenly jumped back and shouted “hey you!” Before pulling his knitted cardigan apart to reveal a “keep 2 metres away from me!” T-shirt.
Embarrassment doubled 5 seconds later when son says loudly “daddy, what does twat mean and why did you say it to that man?”

I am staggered the lesson wasn't learnt - better in terms of public health and perception to go hard early with lockdowns and then ease off if possible rather than wait until its too late again - for fucks sake.
