Lack of planning and preparedness strikes again. Schools can open for key workers children but weren't notified band as a result none locally are open tomorrow. Out of a planned shift of 8 local district nurses, only 2 will be available. That's not even enough to cover all the insulin doses, let along the dressing changes, drivers, etc, This stuff can't be done last minute like this

Do circuits around the church during the mass

Do chinups, or dips during confession.

I'm guessing due to our location, and high proportion of key workers, our school was prepared. About 30 minutes after the speech, we received a text message saying the school will be open for key workers children.

Especially not after the PM announces 24 hours earlier that schools are to stay open and parents should send their kids in.

Teachers have to change plans, parents now have to sort out home schooling and work arrangements overnight, all the businesses have to postpone/cancel/alter plans and staffing etc. etc.

And whilst it was already clear by Christmas that there would need to be a full lockdown by NYE. It's really shockingly poor governance and 'leadership', especially since we've had over 9 months now to analyse, review and act on the data and the situations.

Well clearly it can and is being done at the last minute time and time and time again.
As an aside regarding the vaccinations, my friend who is a nurseis doing some vaccinations at a local GP surgery.
Well he isn't actually doing the need into the Deltoid that is being done by untrained staff, the majority of which are the GPs or practice nurses kids back from Uni. They have a little bit of training apparently via a video link.
The nursing staff draw up the doses etc and them to the kids to jab the needle into the deltoid.
Nice little earner for the kids the nurses and the GPs who will meet their QOF I suppose.

I thought he was taking the piss but he really wasn't.

Lucky enough that we don't need to take advantage of the school being open. It's a disgrace basically. I'd hope that no one would vote for the tories again in 20 years. However, then I look at the fact that Trump still did fairly well in the US elections, and figure there's not much hope of that.

So the top four groups will receive the first jab by mid Feb, 2nd jab within 12 weeks mean that come April the same groups will need jabs, so the 6 weeks between will be used to start on the next levels, do they then stop to start on 2nd jabs for the first groups, followed by the 2nd, and only then restart on lower groups in July?
As you don't have full protection till the 2nd dose, and the lower groups seem to be the superspreaders, I can't see this lockdown ending anytime soon.
For example, I'm acting as a carer for my parents, both in their 90s. They should have first soon, followed by 2nd in April, but I'm way down the list and will still have to be bloody careful until they get the full dose..

Look at the people giving the injections in the first place; from the sounds of this, they'll only have been given the first injection, with 70% efficacy; & then they'll be in close contact to everyone they subsequently inject.

If no other group gets the 2nd injection in two weeks; these people definitely should

The presumption is that once we reach March/April, bother the infection rate and mortality rate will fall off both through vaccination and spring weather. That in turn frees up resource to hopefully deal with increased vaccine supply. The idea is that the AVERAGE vaccine delivery will ultimately be over 2 million per week, so towards the end we'll be handling 2.5-3 million per week

Indonesia is taking an approach like that in general. Vaccinating working age adults before elderly.

A very well organised system would vaccinate those most likely to spread before anyone else, graded in turn in who they were most likely to spread it to.

There was no need for this last minute decision. The modelling is now pretty sophisticated and, from what I have seen, pretty accurate now compared to the earlier days when everyone was guessing about the virus and how patient care should be provided. Given the Gov knew about the increase in transmission of the new variant some weeks ago, well before Christmas, the modelling would have been quite clear about increasing cases, increased hospitalisation and increase in deaths if nothing was done. It would have taken a competent modeller about 30 mins to revise their models with the new transmission rates and half a day to develop the various scenarios required to bring it under control. Their analysis would have been pretty clear and would have been available to Gov before Christmas, and this is reflected in the advice being provided by Sage and others. To suggest that it was only on Monday that the Blonde Bumblecunt became aware of the impact and the increasing numbers and that this merited an immediate decision on new lock down is a lie of the first order. Everyone knew this was coming and the NHS here was put on an emergency footing some weeks before Christmas. The only explanation for the last minute decision is that the BB and his Brexit Ultras made a decision not to close down earlier for other political reasons. To go on national TV and say schools in England were safe and then to bring kids back for a day to act as super spreaders of a new, more contagious variant borders on the criminal. This Gov is killing people!

Paramedics in LA now being told not to transport patients with little chance of survival; & now they're rationing Oxygen
"Effective immediately, due to the severe impact of the Covid-19 pandemic on EMS and 9-1-1 Receiving Hospitals, adult patients (18 years of age or older) in blunt traumatic and nontraumatic out-of-hospital cardiac arrest (OHCA) shall not be transported [if]return of spontaneous circulation (ROSC) is not achieved in the field," the agency said in a memo issued to ambulance workers last week.
If there are no signs of breathing or a pulse, EMS will continue to perform resuscitation for at least 20 minutes, the memo said. If the patient is stabilized after the period of resuscitation, they would then be taken to a hospital. If the patient is declared dead at the scene or no pulse can be restored, paramedics will no longer transport the body to the hospital.

And the shortage of oxygen, given the high number of Covid-19 patients, has also pressured the system to conserve supply.
"Given the acute need to conserve oxygen, effective immediately, EMS should only administer supplemental oxygen to patients with oxygen saturation below 90%," EMS said in a memo to ambulance crews Monday.

They have the new strain there too (well, in new york at least). I fear America is going to go downhill fast now. There again, we're not looking to do much better.

Our school has said that because so many parents qualify as key workers (including me) that they have "consulted the County Council" and apparently they only have to take kids with 2 key worker parent or with no other suitable adult at home. Not sure that's true, but it looks like screaming, tantrums and massive damage to my children's education is back on the menu as neither of us are bloody teachers and the house isn't a place of learning for the kids it's a place of play and rest and trying to force a six year old to understand otherwise is a pointless exercise

Fuck this fucking virus and double fuck the fucking Tories.

Both myself and my wife work for the NHS and much to my daughters annoyance we threaten to send her to school if she annoys us.

She went for 2 days at the last lock down and she was only 1 of 3 in a year of 235 that went in.

This lockdown is already proving harder than the first, which I quite enjoyed to be honest.

Kids 9 months older, shite weather. Not looking forward to this at all.
