Middle East Eye reports that Iran, in its treaty with Russia, has refused to recognize Crimea and other occupied territories as Russian.
Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian and Russian leader Vladimir Putin plan to meet in Moscow on Friday to sign a strategic partnership agreement. Notably, the document does not recognize Ukraine's occupied territories as part of Russia.
Smart move from Iran to get to be taken at their word about being willing to cooperate with different people on different things. More importantly, demonstrates Putin is weaker than previously that he has to accept that.tabascoboy wrote: ↑Wed Jan 15, 2025 12:53 pm

Utter scumbags.
Israel are big fans of this sort of coercion as well.
What about the drone killer. The Aussie slinger!. And the Australian cardboard drones. No love? How surprising. The Ukrainians love our Bushmasters now their begging for our light recon Hawkai. Let alone our Redbacks.Hellraiser wrote: ↑Tue Jan 14, 2025 5:24 pm It looks as though KNDS is going to provide at least 9 Boxer RCT30 IFVs to Ukraine along with the RCH 155s. The RCT30 module variant fulfils a UAV defence role, so these may specifically operate in tandem with the RCH 155s to protect them from drones.

You Europeans, no wonder you're in such a mess...
Putin reportedly plans to demand Ukraine never join NATO and become a neutral state with a limited army during talks with Trump, per Bloomberg.
Other Russian demands are: NATO may supply Ukraine weapons but not for use against Russia or reclaiming territories and Russia seeks control of 20% of Ukraine, including Crimea, but is open to territorial swaps.

Nah, from the fresh paint I imagine they've restored decommissioned and deep storage missiles like they've done with S-200s.PornDog wrote: ↑Wed Jan 15, 2025 12:28 pmI wonder did they capture some in storage in Kursk region?Hellraiser wrote: ↑Tue Jan 14, 2025 5:15 pm Amazingly Ukraine appears to still have Tochka-U missile stocks. "In 2024, the Russian Armed Forces lost 434,000 personnel, 150,000 of them dead. The losses of the occupiers this year are greater than in the previous two years," — Syrskyi
And there's no sign of Russia slowing down in sacrificing it's manpower.Hellraiser wrote: ↑Mon Jan 20, 2025 1:22 pm"In 2024, the Russian Armed Forces lost 434,000 personnel, 150,000 of them dead. The losses of the occupiers this year are greater than in the previous two years," — Syrskyi
What, practically, can be done about this? Does the RN have to shadow every single dodgy Russian boat?A Russian “spy ship” was tracked closely by the Royal Navy this week after it entered UK waters on Monday and passed through the Channel at a time of heightened concern about the safety of undersea cables.
The defence secretary, John Healey, told the Commons on Tuesday that the Yantar, a Russian vessel engaged in “mapping the UK’s critical underwater infrastructure”, had passed through British waters for the second time in less than three months.
Healey accused the Russian president, Vladimir Putin, of trying to threaten European security by targeting undersea infrastructure carrying oil, gas, electricity and the internet. “We see you. We know what you’re doing,” he said before MPs.

This replyPutin says Russia is open to negotiations on Ukraine and sees Trump’s statements about cooperation as promising. He claims Zelensky’s ban on talks with Moscow makes any negotiations illegitimate.
Also according to Putin, the Ukraine war wouldn’t have happened if Trump’s 2020 victory hadn’t been “stolen.” He describes his past relationship with Trump as businesslike yet pragmatic and trusting, adding that it would be best to meet Trump based on current realities and have a calm discussion.
That does leave on what terms
Russian propagandists complain that the use of F-16s has begun to be recorded near the front lines. According to them, the fighters were first spotted in the Zaporizhia direction, and then in the south of the Donetsk region. It is assumed that the F-16s are not directly involved in strikes against Russian ground forces, but are covering other Ukrainian aircraft carrying out such strikes with their air-to-air missiles. In fact, everything is happening as Anders Nilsen previously assumed : at first, the F-16s will be used for relatively simpler tasks, such as covering airspace from Russian cruise missiles, and then they will move on to missions that require more experience and coordination.

A small update
On the published photo of a seized ship a heavily damaged anchor is visible.
Swedish prosecutors have ordered the detainment of a Malta-flagged vessel and opened an investigation into suspected “aggravated sabotage”.
The Vezhen is owned by Bulgarian shipping company Navigation Maritime Bulgare. The vessel had departed from the Russian port of Ust-Luga
Far-right pro-Russian politician and Romanian presidential candidate Călin Georgescu stated that Ukraine is a "fictional state" and that its division among neighboring countries is only a matter of time.
While speculating about a "new division of the world," the politician openly fantasized about possible border changes and potential benefits for Romania.
Ukraine’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs strongly condemned these statements, emphasizing that they are an outright display of disrespect toward Ukraine and reflect Kremlin rhetoric.
