Not sure what you were linking to as I think you need to be registered. But the Dow Jones is 30% higher than it was when Biden came in to office. Nasdaq and S&P500 both up around 50%.Torquemada 1420 wrote: ↑Wed Jul 17, 2024 11:58 am Markets usually right:

Very confused by the Tenacious D thing.
His bandmate made a joke so he's cancelled the whole tour?

Someone suggested it could have caused venues insurance rates to rise and therefore they cancelled the band.Uncle fester wrote: ↑Wed Jul 17, 2024 7:46 pm Very confused by the Tenacious D thing.

Give a man a fire and he'll be warm for a day. Set a man on fire and he'll be warm for the rest of his life.
Right, just to get it out of my system.
Shooter was allowed to be on an unprotected roof, wandering about for 30 minutes before, lots of people reporting him to police etc.
Trump was allowed to then wait for his shoes, and wave himself about with no bodies between him and another shooter.
Supposedly, hit by glass and not a bullet, and apparently no stitches even needed.
His hand that goes to the ear and has no blood on it, and there's only a tiny amount on his face that doesn't seem to increase at any time later.
Also, for some reason his cap was high priority. An agent picked it up, trump had it, an agent took it from him, dropped it and picked it up again. Why the hell would you be worried about picking up a cap! You're trying to save a man's life and get him out of there whilst covering his body with your own. You're not going to bend down to grab him run out the mill maga cap surely.
Ok, enough conspiracy for me. The cap thing just gets me.

The leaked phone call to RFK Jr is interesting; it tells us how close they're expecting this to be, that he's worried about too many of his swivel eyed loons supporting RFK Jr, & not him.

Jack Black gets to work on some very big, very well paying movies (definitely better paying than Tenacious D), but he is not an indispensible star. I'd imagine he's nervous about studios distancing themselves from him if he's too close to political controversy. Recasting voice actors for Kung Fu Panda and Super Mario wouldn't be ideal, but it's not difficult.Uncle fester wrote: ↑Wed Jul 17, 2024 7:46 pm Very confused by the Tenacious D thing.

Saw some polling a little while back that suggested RFK pulls more from Trump's base. Hardly a surprise given how wholeheartedly RFK embraces conspiracy. The left aren't immune to it, but modern conspiracy does seem to skew right.fishfoodie wrote: ↑Wed Jul 17, 2024 8:40 pm The leaked phone call to RFK Jr is interesting; it tells us how close they're expecting this to be, that he's worried about too many of his swivel eyed loons supporting RFK Jr, & not him.

and the biggest bullshit conspiracy is ??? ..... that the 2020 Election was stolen, repeated ad nauseam by the Traitor himself & his lick-spittles, so while that part suits him, it's pushing his base towards someone who's even nuttier than him.sockwithaticket wrote: ↑Wed Jul 17, 2024 8:50 pmwhilefishfoodie wrote: ↑Wed Jul 17, 2024 8:40 pm The leaked phone call to RFK Jr is interesting; it tells us how close they're expecting this to be, that he's worried about too many of his swivel eyed loons supporting RFK Jr, & not him.

Surprised if Trump trusts Vance at all as he seems just as likely to knife him in the back should the chance arise. As USA is a gerontocracy I wonder if some cynical younger ones think it is just the best way to get into position to plunge the knife or wait until he drops dead instead of killing your political career opposing trump.epwc wrote: ↑Wed Jul 17, 2024 9:41 pm This fella doesn’t like J D Vance

He was a Never-Trumper, saw Trump as a false prophet for working class Americans, had a go at Trump for denigrating immigrants…then quickly realized that the only way he was going to win the Senate seat was if he was endorsed by Trump so did a very rapid 180. JD Vance is anything but stupid, he’s also highly ambitious. If he was from a blue state I suspect he would have ended up a Democrat and not been anywhere near the Vice Presidency. The Republican Party do seem to be somewhat better than the Democrats in promoting young talent, especially white male ones.petej wrote: ↑Wed Jul 17, 2024 10:37 pmSurprised if Trump trusts Vance at all as he seems just as likely to knife him in the back should the chance arise. Rumours seem to be increasing that Biden will drop out of the Presidential race sooner rather than later. Not that rumours mean shit of course, but wonder if the Covid thing could give him some incentive to retire now with some amount of grace and dignity intact...?

Impact of a prolonged bout/long COVID meaning he can no longer dedicate himself to the campaign with the energy required. Go down the LBJ route and just focus on governing rather than campaigning?

If he goes the Dems are going to get so much free media covering the fight to replace him, drowning out a lot of the free press Trump would get for behaving like a complete Trump

At this late stage, they need to have the replacement lined up and ready to go. A contest for the nomination now would be damaging.Rhubarb & Custard wrote: ↑Thu Jul 18, 2024 6:30 pm If he goes the Dems are going to get so much free media covering the fight to replace him, drowning out a lot of the free press Trump would get for behaving like a complete Trump

Else they have to work out how to transfer all the donations between the existing campaign & the new one, but if Harris just becomes President, she can choose her own VP
Is Harris sufficiently popular?fishfoodie wrote: ↑Thu Jul 18, 2024 8:35 pmThey do !, his VP !Uncle fester wrote: ↑Thu Jul 18, 2024 7:50 pmAt this late stage, they need to have the replacement lined up and ready to go. Tbh I don't think he has covid, they're just saying he does. As far as state lies go, it'd be a pretty minor and benign one. At the very least it gives them an excuse to keep him out of the media for a bit and avoid any gaffes or moments that will be hyper-fixated on to fuel the "he's too old and senile" narrative. It also, as you suggest, provides the cover for him to pull out of the race.tabascoboy wrote: ↑Thu Jul 18, 2024 4:27 pm Rumours seem to be increasing that Biden will drop out of the Presidential race sooner rather than later. Mixed picture. She certainly wasn't in the not too distant past, but recent polling suggests she'd fare better than Biden against Trump.geordie_6 wrote: ↑Thu Jul 18, 2024 8:42 pmIs Harris sufficiently popular?fishfoodie wrote: ↑Thu Jul 18, 2024 8:35 pmThey do !, his VP !Uncle fester wrote: ↑Thu Jul 18, 2024 7:50 pm

Sometimes yes, but they're up against someone who dominates coverage in any normal day of campaigning. So in this instance I'm not so sure, this is their chance to get the election onto topics they want to talk about, and in many ways that's the ball game, not going policy by policy to see who has the better ideas, but which ideas even get talked about that happens to benefit one side over the other. Clearly there's a lot of chat the DNC are doing all this intentionally, myself I have some doubts that's the case, but still there are opportunities in this.Uncle fester wrote: ↑Thu Jul 18, 2024 7:50 pmAt this late stage, they need to have the replacement lined up and ready to go. And on the off chance the Democrats believe in democracy, and there's a fair bit to their history that says they're iffy on that front, it would be better not to have a leader presented unto the little people, and actually allowing the various factions to have their say is useful, and is making someone earn it. Also it'd be a little different if Harris was a strong candidate, I happen to like her, but she's clearly not impressing vast swathes of people whether for fair or unfair reasons
FFS. It is mind-boggling to know that his followers will believe him when he says that his whole ear was blown off but it grew back in 1~2 days. Though I must admit this smells of AI, rather than a genuine interview
Video is AI, and "Agent Self" made the fake post.
