A click-baity headline/image (which Brian doesn't need to use, imo) for this good, sensible chat with Pete

Expected but still a gut punch.

Republicans have already said they'll sabotage the process to replace him on the ticket

Interesting that he hasn't endorsed Harris.

I guess they had to wait to make this decision (after the shambles at the debate) so as to not appear to be panicky and reactive but Jesus, the Democrats really know how to shoot themselves in the foot.

Biden has looked old and frail and in poor physical and mental health for four years, but only NOW do they decide to pull the plug, just three months from the election?

I obviously think this is a great decision, & now the Dems can just go to the media & whatever question they get asked, ignore it, & ask the interviewer why they aren't asking questions about the traitors age & cognitive decline ?

The GOP puppets have been pushing this for months, now lets see if the media does the whole balance thing when it's the Republican candidate with question to answer, & not with some bullshit testimonial from their favorite pill-pusher MD from Texas !

Otherwise the Dems can talk about the improvement in the Economy, the great job they've done on investing in America, & stellar jobs data etc

Trump showed the exact level of magnanimity, kindness and statesmanship we’ve come to expect of him in response to the news.

Try this out for a conspiracy theory.

How about if Biden had actually made this decision a couple of weeks ago, but they wanted to have the GOP to, lock in their ticket first, before they announce, so now if the GOP panic & try change their ticket, it's the Dems in the driving seat looking like leaders & listening to the concerns of voters ?

That'd be the icing on the cake if the billionaires for Trump and GOP kicked him to the curb. "Sorry, Donny. We need a guaranteed win here and you're likely going to jail, right, so..."

I can't see it happening given how strong the cult is, but if this were a TV show (and sometimes I think I'm in one), that'd be the end of the scene with "Tuesday's Gone" by Lynyrd Skynyrd playing.

And that's the point !

They've saddled themselves with the disgusting scrote of a candidate, & his appalling supporters, & now they're stuck with him, in the same way that the Dems were stuck with Hilary, when all kinds of people were terrified they'd lose because they could see all the attack points on her.

This !

I'm sure he feels ready to lead for another term, but he also knows how old he is, & how badly he performed at the debate, & honestly, if he didn't want to step aside, there's no way he can be forced out; but after consideration he's shown what a patriot he is, & stepped aside himself from the most powerful job in the world.

You never see selfless acts in politics, & the adage has always been that all political careers end in failure, but for me this is Joe Biden sticking a thumb in that optic & demonstrating that it is possible to not end in failure, but success !!!

Isn't it too late to get another candidates campaign off the ground? It's not quite the 11th hour but it's pretty late in the day for another candidate (presumably Kamala) to come in and build the required movement to beat Trump. I mean Trump has been effectively running for 4 years and this newbie is gonna have 3 months to make their case. Seems like a tough task.

Harris has inherited Joe's formidable campaign resources, and most senior Democrats (including potential primary rivals like Whitmer and Newsom) have endorsed her, so she'll definitely hit the ground running once her candidacy is confirmed at the DNC next month. And apparently donations are flooding in, with over $50m in the hours since Joe's exit.

Game on.

It is also a major advantage that she is on course with all Biden's key policies and will almost certainly continue with them, making it easy for already committed voters to stay committed and to attract the moderate republican voters who don't really like Trump or JP Mandel.

Was thinking that getting right out front and emphasizing policy, policy, policy & continuation consistency is the way to go.

Really allows the Democrat PACs to go after Trumps age and mental decline. Official Dem line won't do it at all, to take the higher ground, but the side campaigning will go in heavy. Good.

The MAGA lot seemed to keep harping on about Killary/lock her up for a few years so reckon we'll still get Hunter's laptop for a while yet.

I'm not a huge fan of Biden but he's done some good things and his stepping aside shows a decency and common sense.

As you all might know, it is traditional in the US for ex-Presidents to establish their own 'Library'. These are not libraries in the traditional sense, but more like museums devoted to their presidential achievements.

Anyway, I thought all the Trump fans on here might like to visit his own online Presidential Library:

 https://djtrumplibrary.com/

I particularly recommend visiting the Hall of Enablers, the Alt-Right Auditorium and the Exhibition Spaces, including the Wall of Criminality and Tax Evasion 101. You can complete your visit with a trip to the Grift Shop.

It says something when it took a while to twig

I've been to Clinton's library in Little Rock, these things are collections of the gifts given to presidents in their official role - they're considered property of the US and not of the president themselves. There were a few notes made about Clinton's acceptance of some bad behaviour (although Lewinsky wasn't expressly mentioned) - I think we all be confident that (in the case Donnie were ever to get his arse into gear to sort his own library) Donnie won't fess up to much in his.

It was genuinely quite interesting to see, the sheer range and scale was impressive - and they had to tread a bit carefully on some bits as Hillary was still a potential candidate and active politician when I visited.

I guess it really needs to be Harris with a running mate that isn't likely to stand in the next election to give the Democrats a complete clean slate.

Harris doesn't have to stand for a second term. Dems can boot her if they choose in 2028.

And so it begins...
NIGEL Farage has been accused of “straight up racism” towards Kamala Harris after suggesting the Democrat party won’t “get rid of a black African woman”.

Farage was interviewed about the latest developments on Monday but was blasted after he described Harris as a “black African women”.

Harris was born in Oakland, California. Her father, Donald J. Harris, is Jamaican American while her mother, Shyamala Gopalan, is of Tamil Indian origin.

Wouldn't be sure of that. A lot of people didn't feel they had a choice between two old men. Momentum is a massive part of elections, and she will gain it with this publicity and lift to Dem polling, followed by the convention and another potential lift, then straightforward campaigning on not being a nepotistic narcissist who can't string a basic sentence together.
