Ah well. Italy were the better team just about, and certainly a better team at penalties. Can't really complain about the result, even the guy who should've been sent off missed his.

Mount was crap, sadly Saka was even worse, so was Henderson. Only Grealish was a positive off the bench. After a strong first 35, Kane ended up in Chiellini's pocket. Did well to take it to penalties in the end.

Best team in the tournament won it, which is fair enough really.

The good news is all those people who hate England football got their wish and will never have to hear about football again!

Better team won, congrats Italy.

Why does Southgate bring on two kids from the bench to take pens? They were subbed on defending a corner too! It makes no sense.

Italy were the better side over the course, just about, well done them.

That goal in the 2nd minute cost them, put them in defensive mode and could get back to attacking mode again. Usually the same problem in any sport.

MOTM for me is Italy ๐Ÿ‡ฎ๐Ÿ‡น captain.

With Italy pressing and having something like 70% possession I said to my wife that if they score England will find it difficult to come back into it as they had been set on the back foot for so long.

She didn't answer and continued to look at her phone.

Mount is basically Goode. Excellent club player, can't do it at international level.

Rice should be banned from moving past the opposition centre circle, he is clueless in the top part of the pitch. No wonder Kane looked so bloody forlorn, with zero midfield support and Sterling running up blind alleys all night.

Pretty harsh on Rice, who provided plenty of impetus. And on Mount, who deserves his place and has been pretty good up til now - he just had a poor performance in the final. He's usually Mr Reliable and a coach's dream. He's only just become a cracking club player, the guy's only 22 with just two seasons of Premiership football behind him.

I'm all for saying when players have not performed on the day but eh that's just silly

He was shattered and we needed a passer, sadly Henderson is a bit of a donkey and did not add anything. Would good to develop someone for that role - Bellingham I guess is the future option there.

I also like players not keeping silver medals. I don't think they should be given them.

Because they have to stand and wait for a ceremony where they are hailed as successes, while in a team sport the ceremony is just them being given the medals in the first place, and they essentially represent coming last on the day

It's pretty common in football but hey

They have to take the podium pictures in the Olympics to be fair - I'd be interested how many keep them after.

I don't think it's disrespectful to take off silver medals. You aren't there to get silver - I doubt the Italian players cared they took them off.

It's lucky he won't read any of it as it's all his media agency controlling it. Sport players just shouldn't have social media I think. It's a shame but there's far too many miserable c*nts who achieve nothing with their life and take it out on successful people about.

Until the next major tournament. And given the behaviour of way too many of their "fans", you are surprised why so many dislike Eng?

In all seriousness, this was their best chance since before most people here were born:
- a very easy pool. Maybe the Dutch one was easier.
- all home games bar one which meant they didn't suffer the travel like Wales, and they had the home support.
- all the big guys killed one another off which meant it was always coming down to one game against one decent opponent and Eng came up just short.

I'd settle for never having to hear "It's coming home again".

Rashford's penalty was poor. I don't mind if you hit it hard and hit the target and the keeper saves it, but if you mess about and try to be too clever then it is annoying. Not sure why Saka was asked to take the 5th penalty surely there were more experienced players who could step up.

Also there's no way that "England only played one decent team" stands up to any scrutiny. But hey, we lost on the fifth penalty of a shootout against the best team in the competition, so let's rush to diminish the team's achievement...

Penalties are always a gamble and cant blame the individual players. They have decided long before the final who will take it. Doesn't matter how much they practice it, when they take it under such pressure each player will react differently. Rushford would not miss like that in a 1000 times.

Luke Shaw my English MOTM
