I think this is worth serious consideration.
Even if Trump has been happy to flout the checks and balances which would force a normal President to show some restraint, there has always been the potential pitfall of re-election for him to consider.
With that removed, assuming his re-election, it should take the brakes off (such as there are any) entirely.
Given China's posturing in the South China Sea, I can certainly see him taking the gloves off and initiating a military conflict, especially if he thinks he can make money out of it.
Conversely, the fact that he is completely off his rocker in a Dr. Strangelove sense may force Xi and the CPP to exercise caution.
