In around 2013 there was a challenge to live for £1 a day for 100 days. Nobody achieved it. You basically ate porridge three meals per day. Which when you factor in costs of heat is likely over budget anyway.sockwithaticket wrote: Wed May 11, 2022 2:36 pmThey really are fucking evil. We'll even be generous and say he can have £1 a day. Give him that and see how he's getting on after a week.
You simply cannot eat the amount a human being is supposed to, let alone healthily, for so little.
My previous firm had an office in Harlow, it's a grim place.

Obviously if things are tight you are not skiing in Aspen this year, but these are averages, and there are things like car insurance, council tax, broadband, petrol, food etc that are not means-tested and people to do live according to their means. My point here is that even a good salary of £38k doesn't mean it's all roast pheasant and French wines.
For a dickhead on £80k plus (before expenses) to tell others to cut their cloth is yet another example of what the Tories think of the voters
No wonder if all the Tories are off thier tits as much as Gove was on the Beeb this am.Raggs wrote: Wed May 11, 2022 9:21 pm I think they all still have this notion that we're living in a country where minimum wage is still enough for a man to support the wife and 2 children, and buy his own home, and the good little wife stays at home and has all day to cook meals from scratch.

What a disgrace
I'm detecting the same energy as ZANU-PF conducting a ribbon cutting for a bin/skip. Comfortable households can always be more efficient on spend as better quality things tend to last longer and you can bulk buy which is cheaper. Being poor is more expensive. Not sure why Tories find this hard to understand.
Food banks are the ideal Tory solution in that they've outsourced a government responsibility to the private & third sector. They don't realize it's a bad thing.SaintK wrote: Wed May 11, 2022 3:25 pm Mind you, these local Tory officials in Dartford appear delighted to be opening yet another food bank

When a conversation like this is described as 'tetchy', that means that the EU are clearly fed up with the lies & bullshit from the UK side .

Looks like recession coming quicker than I thought it would?
Ja that's the biggest issue. As soon as there's industrial scale corruption like we're seeing, something awful has already progressed past the point of no return. What then needs to happen is people vote for the other party no matter what their politics are, as long as they're cleaner they should be supported. Because what's at stake is the entire system, it's beyond party politics.EnergiseR2 wrote: Thu May 12, 2022 12:21 pmThat's been the worry for the UK. Capping the cost will send more small suppliers to the wall and the government then picks up more cost through the provider of last resort.Ymx wrote: Thu May 12, 2022 1:08 pm I haven’t really thought this through, but what is the biggest reason to not have a windfall tax?

Its a joke announcement, the bumblecunt grandstanding again, they cant do it without severely fucking up lots of critical services, recruitment freeze will undoiubtedly happen, but thats about it.I like neeps wrote: Fri May 13, 2022 7:27 am So the govt continuing to play the hits and today will cut 90,000 civil servants.
Won't happen and we'll actually have to hire way more in the customs agents so we can finally start checking EU goods.

But yeah let's sack 90 thousand civil servants, its what Thatcher would have done.. that'll make everything fine.
It's just a typically facile analysis and policy prescription by Johnson. Yes, bureaucratic bloat is a thing but there is something that happened in 2016 which might explain why the civil service has had a lot on since.I like neeps wrote: Fri May 13, 2022 7:27 am So the govt continuing to play the hits and today will cut 90,000 civil servants.

Some are incredibly dogmatically opposed to the idea of anything being in state hands while others know the price of everything and value of nothing.Tichtheid wrote: Fri May 13, 2022 7:41 amLine6 HXFX wrote: Fri May 13, 2022 6:28 am

They actually did get rid of many tiers of civil servants back then, and what happened was they found they had lost thousands of "man-years" of experience and knowledge, so they had to buy in consultants at private sector prices.
They are fiscally incompetent, no other description.
