Play like today and Scotland are going to get destroyed by France and Ireland.

I know that’s an obvious thing to say.

After watching that Ireland try, and what can happen with a contested kick off, it made me wonder why Scotland always put kick offs so deep with no apparent intention of competing. No one else seems to do it.

It is. But France will feel like they owe us for last March.

So much wrong with that today.

Wales went into that game with absolute belief they would win. Every player on that team today comes from a generation that has only known domination over Scotland, and it showed.

Scotland in turn need to screw the fucking nut. Missed touch from penalties, kicks out of the full. How hard is it to pull Russell aside and say, every kick to touch you need to say ‘make your touch’ to yourself three times before you kick it. It’s absolutely fucking basic.

Massive error from Toonie today not having a passing 12 IMO, the midfield was aimless all game and it left Finn to try and be Hollywood every play.

The most infuriating thing about it was, I think you can win this tournament this year having lost a game. We will lose to at least one of Ireland or France. We couldn’t afford the loss to be against an utterly mediocre wales.

I don't think we can win having lost 1 without bonus points even if we snuck a win today. Our attack is so aimless that we don't look in any danger of scoring 4.

Tui at 12 definitely doesn’t work with Harris at 13, because there’s no one running lines for Russell. And let’s face it, you ain’t dropping Harris to get Tui in. Redpath looked good when he came on, another game for Bath next weekend and he’ll start against France.

Well, better than if I had watched it live anyway. Not sure whether I can face it now.

Someone said it earlier - this is entirely psychological. We believe we are going to beat England. We believe we are going to beat Australia. We even believe we are going to beat France. But we don’t believe we are going to beat Wales, home or away, and they do believe they are going to beat us. And so we lose to crap Welsh teams, over and over again, and the idea that we can’t beat them is cemented further in our heads.

Sadly, if we can’t win a game like this, we might as well face facts: this team, for all its talent, will never do anything special. One-off wins are as good as it’s going to get. Mainly because our heads aren’t right. Perhaps the reason Hogg looks so delighted when we win is that he expects us to lose.

I'm not sure it is just the players that have the issues in their heads.

There are 5 coaches involved and only 1 is coaching his part well based on the evidence.

Scotland aren't going to win the six nations because France and Ireland are class. But to lose to that Wales team, ffs. Just embarrassing.

Well, Ireland losing has made me feel fractionally better as now they can’t get 4 Grand Slams this year. But that’s what is known as scant consolation.

FFS. There is plenty of talent in our team. Maybe not enough to win the 6N but certainly enough to be contenders. But we’re going to stumble to 4th or 5th place again and we have nobody to blame but ourselves. I can accept being edged out in a tight contest, but I can’t accept not turning up, which is what we do in Cardiff every 2 years.

We know that we lack on-field leadership. Hogg tries his best, but it’s hard captaining from FB. Russell offers the square root of sod all if he isn’t on his game. Ritchie is the only leader we have in the pack.

That was old-school shite from Scotland.

Panicky nonsense and poor in the breakdown.

But in a 3-point game, going down 6-0 early on while completely bossing the game is unforgivable. This was a game lost in the first seven minutes, I feel.

You wouldn’t mind so much if anything changed in between games. But it doesn’t. Sometimes we turn up and do well. Sometimes we totally don’t and we are hopeless. Sometimes we put in a patchy performance and the result is a toss-up.

Prior to the Toony era we hardly ever turned up properly against anyone (although it was improving a bit under VC), so that has improved. The other thing that has improved over the last few years is that we win some of the patchy games, whereas we used to lose all of them. What hasn’t improved at all is the second group. We still regularly put in at least one unacceptably poor performance in every 6N. We almost didn’t in 2021, but there was still the home game v Ireland which we could have won if our lineout hadn’t disintegrated.

As has been said before, we can handle losing, but not a lack of fight. That’s the difference between us and Ireland. Ireland turn up every time. They might not always win, but they will fight for every inch, every game. Scotland don’t, won’t or can’t. Every so often we simply look as if we’re not up for it, and put in a performance so embarrassingly half-arsed that it has us all raging.

10 years ago Scotland used to make elementary errors in every game, and I prayed that the SRU would employ a hard-as-nails coach who wouldn’t tolerate it. Maybe we did with VC, maybe not, but certainly things improved. But we have been unable to cut out the games where we just don’t perform at all. Telfer wouldn’t have put up with it and the team would have been to terrified to do it. I can’t see Townsend fixing it or he would have done it already.

I assume you are alluding to Tandy, but if that’s the case why are we giving away soooo many penalties when defending? You can't unteach that little bit of their brain that goes to shit under pressure.

Particularly Fagerson and for whatever reason any Glasgow hooker playing for Scotland enjoy dull bullshit. That last Fagerson penalty was do mind numbingly dumb I'd be raging if it wasn't so unsurprising from him. Turner gave away a cheap off side in midfield 5-10min after coming on, then another silly penalty competing for the ball.

Gilchrist is bad for it at times too.

If our attacking game was looking sharp but guys kept dropping it then I wouldn't criticise AB Zondagh. However our attack has been woeful.

I don't think it has, last week we took 14 points from terrific moves in a game we played on the back foot for a lot of the time. Today we scored a fantastic try and for the most part of the game when we had possession we looked really good, especially in the first half.

Totally agree on the front row as well. Was Skinner that bad though? Genuine question as I thought during the game he was putting himself about OK.

In saying that, it certainly showed how Richie has fairly quietly become integral to every we do well

Well, at 6 he didn’t have much of a choice. But we have a number of players who can play 6, and to pick a guy who is primarily a lock didn’t sit right.

Honestly don’t know what the deal was at 12. Johnson hadn’t done a thing wrong, and Redpath is short of match practice.

I can sort of see what he was going for with the front row, but clearly it was a mistake.
