Jim James has such a stunning voice. I like that more than I seem to click with MMJ, but his George Harrison tribute EP under Yim Yames is fantastic.

Managed to see them, and you will know us by the trail of dead, Queens of the Stone Age and Deftones in quick succession on the Saturday at Reading 2000. Some cracking bands on that year

Nice. I still jam Deftones pretty regularly, from early material to contemporary.
That poster reinforces how rock focused Reading used to be. I remember one year The Dillinger Escape Plan were somehow on the main stage and generated a lot of headlines because the frontman shat on it as part of a somewhat creative insult to Puddle of Mudd who were following them at some point in the day... Most people I knew were completely perplexed by their presence, as a mathcore band they were not an easy listen even when compared to the likes of Slipknot who became festival regulars by dint of their popularity and TDEP certainly lacked that level of fan support.

The Chariot were a scuzzy, chaotic mess of a mathcore band. Absolutely fucking brilliant. This is their erstwhile frontman's attempt at a more conventional rock band:
Has an element of Jon Spencer Blues Explosion to it.
I was reading through this line up and thinking how good it was, and it took me too long to realise I was actually there!

Ha, I was 18. Was definitely a seminal weekend of my youth.
Did Reading (from 99) or Leeds (from 2003) every year until 06. Some decent times, were had, but this was the peak.

Was that the year the riot police came? I've no idea what they're like now but back then the Reading/Leeds festivals were pretty hardcore. Just bands and drinking.
I went to Glasto more often and kinda stopped as the BBC crowd started going, I think 2010 was the latest one I went to.

The rioting was at Leeds. Think it was the year before I first went though
Did Glastonbury once in 2005, which was one of the years with really bad flooding. As a result it was a bit shit. Too many people, too hard to get to, ankle deep mud everywhere and too many hippies.

Aye, hippies are a hazard at Glasto I'm afraid. I had a rather rosey picture of it from my first time in '95 when all the Britpop and New Wave of New Wave bands played, so I carried on long after it was worth going.

It is a great record. The band completely passed my by at the time. First heard them several years later when a friend was playing it in his car.

Phil Elverum has revived his Microphones moniker and released this. He's gone a bit Sleep and released a 45 minute song. Worth a look for anyone into his stuff.

I was at that Reading Festival too.
What a year that was.
I also went to the Roskilde Festival in 2000. That was an incredible, but sobering experience.

Both albums are great. They haven't done anything in a few years, but I hope they do at least one more! That reminds me of when I first 'discovered' them. I think it was a live youtube clip where one comment (I'd like to believe it true) said: "That's my dad!" Sheesh, yeah, all the people from bands I listened to as a teen are old as fudge now! I'M old as fudge ... still loving this stuff!
This current pop punk band has a few bangers and, unlike many of them, don't look or sound like an 'edgy' boy band!

That project passed me by. Used to listen to all of those bands other than The Tank. Strung out were stand outs for me (before they went a bit metal anyway)

Trash Boat are another pop-punk band on the rougher end of the scale with some crackers
That track features Dan Campbell of The Wonder Years who would also fall under that category, though they've recently started to change their sound to more of an alt-rock/post-hardcore one.
