I think his attitude in his bench appearances has been good. He just needs to translate it into a full game.

Although I still think we need to consider Nkosi. If Kolbe is having a bad day under the high ball, then we need to counter it and Nkosi is excellent under the high ball.
Nkosi has never had to field Curwin Bosch never ending up and unders like 5 Bar did with success.
The Stormers reserves lost us the match this past weekend. Stop getting ahead of yourselves. You and Blake are acting like they did nothing wrong and all the other players are kak and we are leading the series.....Herschel, Ginger , Malherbe, Elstadt and Willemse came on and we gave up a lead and lost the game. Let's keep this in perspective

But they don't win or lose any points in this series so #1 is locked in

Blake wrote: Mon Jul 26, 2021 4:54 pm We definitely have to practice high ball catches as well as recovery and reset plays from failed high ball contests in defense. I think we were caught a little off guard when the Lions went there. For Wales in 2019 we were prepared as we expected kicking game from them, but for the Lions I think we expected them to try and go wide, not high. We did well enough fielding the kicks in the first half and that put them under pressure, especially when we returned. I didn't expect it to start going so badly in the second.
The more I reflect on that game, the more it was like the Wales semi-final. Both teams nullified our lineout by never kicking out.

The same semi-final where Kolbe was injured and Nkosi filled in very well. Just saying.

On second thoughts, perhaps Weise would be a better fit at 8 than bringing in Marco. He has been particularly good at fielding kicks for Leicester and I think the Lions would be less inclined to target him the way they targeted Kwagga.

Those soulless Gatland teams got the better of us the last years. Fortunately we always managed to win the important games. Not this time. We should have seen it coming.

Really? Many people thought he had a good game. If you're moaning that he didn't make any turnovers, then why is no-one bitching at Bongi, Marx, Kitshoff or Kolisi for the same reason?
Basically the whole pack was flat and thought we'd just walk over the Lions.

Rassie was arrogant and even with 3 litres of water by his side, couldn't come up with a Plan B when it was obvious the Lions were winning the aerial kicking battle and destroying us in the maul.

I would start the bum squad and after 40 bring on the bomb squad to either win it or keep it there 8f ahead. I believe that the bomb squad has better temperament to win it

We were fucked. Hardly any rugby and lots of covid recoveries. Our 9 point lead at half time wasn't by chance, but we didn't have the legs to see it through. We'll be better on Saturday. We only lost by 5 points ffs.

I find it funny that you think kicking is part of a "game plan". Rugby has a clear blueprint. If you spend 80% of a game in your own half, you're going to be kicking for 80% of the game. No serious team runs out of their own half, it's suicide. That's why idiots think this or that coach stole his "game plan" from a previous coach. This is the way the game is played, we've been doing it long before Jake the snake came along. The only time a player would run out of their own half is if they clearly see that they can get in the oppositions half with support. In the modern era you don't run out of your own half through traffic, you kick and apply pressure. We lost because we foked up the execution in the second half, not because of a "game plan"

The "plan" was clear to me when they announce the team and it was based around scrums. In the first half you had de Klerk clear the ball quickly from the scrums, cause they knew they were up against a better scrum. In the second half he was taking his sweet time to get the ball out. The aim was to tire out the Lions forwards in the first half and capitalize when the reserves came on. Unfortunately that shit soccer pitch foked the plan up a bit.

Better team. I would have preferred Reinach on the bench, but at least it looks like we will be able to lift the tempo with the replacements. Let's hope Jantjies has a blinder when he comes on.

I hope we see a much bigger impact from Marx, he was extremely quiet last week.

Yes, that's actually a very reasonable selection. I also think Reinach would have been a better impact option, but nervermind, Faf will probably go the distance anyway. 6-2 split with the front row the other way around and Marco and Kwagga to come on later is promising. I'm happy with that team! Go bokke!

Let's have a look.

Kitsoff vs Furlong - Advantage Kitsoff, he has a point to prove and will be pissed
Bongi vs LCD - Adv. LCD if he can stop throw joke lineouts and laughing at himself
Malherbe vs Mako - Adv. Malherbe, also with a point to prove against the child bully
Eben vs Maro - Adv. Maro based on last week
Mostert vs ALJ - Even, both played well last week
Kolisi vs Curry - Adv. Curry, easy against captain invisible
Pieter-Stephanus du Toit VIII vs Lawes, Adv. PSdT easy
Wiese vs Conan - Adv. Wiese, game of his life coming up
Faf vs Murray - Adv. Faf, I thought Price should have started
Pollard vs Biggar - Even, both in good form if they can remain injury free
Mapimpi vs Watson - Adv. Mapimpi, I predict a try from him
Duh Allende vs Henshaw - Adv. DdA, in superb form
Am vs Harris - Adv. Am, much superior player
Kolbe vs Duhan - Adv. Duhan, I think Kolbe could be in for another long match
Willie vs Hogg - Adv. Hogg, Willie looking very vulnerable

Boks 8 - 5 BIL with 2 Even. Boks to go into half time in the lead.

Marx vs Owens - Adv. Marx, I expect a couple of turnovers this time
Nyakane vs Sutherland - Adv. Nyakane, thought he was the better of the two last week
Koch vs Sinckler - Adv. Sinkler unless Koch can surprise me
Lood vs Beirne - Adv. Beirne, Lood looks uninspired
Marco vs Faletau - Adv. Marco, he's going to make a massive impact
Kwagga vs Farrell - Can't compare
Herschel vs Price - Adv. Price
5Bar vs Daly - Adv. 5Bar, he's become quite the impact player

Bench is Boks 4 - 3 BIL so the Boks to maintain their lead and win the match.

Pollard and Biggar are rather both equally fcuked. Pollard back from ACL and Covid, Biggars knee strapped together and failed HIA. Slight advantage Polly

Watson is pure class, I would have him over Mapimps.

Can't wait to see if Pollard passes to De Allende. Or if De Allende passes to Am. Can't wait!

Good point. The pitch breaking up is going to cause these backs a lot of problems.

Frans looks about 5 kaks behind at the moment.
If the boks pull off a win I will be very surprised.
Sig bet the Boks win the second test.

Watson is class. We were quite lucky that the Lions never really unleashed him, he's devastating in space. But I still think Mapimpi is the better winger, he's equally likely to create a try as score one.

Let's hope we see some one-on-ones on Saturday so settle this debate.

It's not so much that you need to drop him but if you're going to use him, it needs to be done differently. It was quite obvious how the lions targeted him on Saturday. He can't do turnovers or cool stuff if he's buried at the bottom of rucks.
