I'm not a fan of Sting, but this cover version of his song is great. Better than the original by light-years.

This says 'remix', but better classified as a cover:

There are no acceptable cover versions. Originality or nuffink...unless you are talking about ancient Welsh Folk Music, and trying to keep it alive.

This is beautiful.

The singer Ren is making big waves on YouTube and social media at the moment - his "Hi Ren" song exploded a few months ago.

I've seen Big Push busking on the streets here, they are very good.

I like what Ren did with The Verve/Rolling Stones

I got on the Ren bandwagon 2 or 3 months ago, after seeing reactors reacting to Hi Ren. The song hit me hard i must admit. I posted about the song on the Depression thread here on NPR as I'm sure many depression sufferers can relate to the song.

From there it has been a non-stop Ren/Big Push/Quichita rabbit hole. I can't believe he's stuff was on Youtube for almost a decade before he got noticed.

He is a brilliant songwriter, singer and entertainer. The fact that he sings just about every genre is even more amazing.

I also watched 2 interviews with people who reacted to his music; the one is some rapper guy, the other with a psychiatrist/ musician. He comes across as one helluva nice guy, and very intelligent. He even comments on just about all reactors to his music.

Hi Ren is an incredible piece of music - it's Bohemian Rapsody done with one guitar, no multilayered vocal tracks with band and solos added in, it's just him and an acoustic guitar, the best of four non stop takes is the one that was put on YouTube.

Hsi other original stuff is just as good

Yeah, he really does come across as a very nice guy, I've seen him on the Justin Hawkins channel and was the rapper called something like Knoxville?

Yeah it's that Knoxville dude's interview I saw, and then the psychiatrist/reactor called Rosalie reacts interview was more focused on his health and music. The Knoxville one was more about his music only.

The song about his friend's suicide, and even more the story behind it (he was a couple of minutes too late to stop it) is heartbreaking.

The first "Animal flow" was probably one of the cleverest songs ever. Knoxville in his reaction realised how Animal Farm was incorporated into his video and lyrics. Must admit I didn't know this Knoxville dude either, but massive respect for picking up on this.

I'm not really a fan of rap, but his rap songs are more intelligent poetic story telling instead of the irritating gangsta and mumble rap that's the norm these days.

There was a post on another thread that made me think of Portuguese Fado singers, and then I remembered this, a Joni Mitchell classic sung by Fadista Ana Moura

I guess I knew this was a cover, but hadn't known how old until I heard the original today...

... oh, and that's not even the original! Seeger collected union songs in 1940 but it was a 12 year old girl called Florence Reece who wrote it adapting a religious hymn. Her, later in life:

It took me ages to remember Damien Rice's name there - good version. I liked the Dire Straits thing too, great fun.

I don't know why I was reminded of this, Tim Pierce is a monster session guitarist, he's played on records by Madonna, Michael Jackson, Roger Waters and many many others. I first became aware of Sophia Pfister a few years ago through watching a couple of Pierce's videos, I like this cover, he goes into teaching a few of the fills he uses on this, but you can stop the vid after the song. He's a really good teacher and seems like a nice guy too, by all accounts.

John Lewis christmas ad music. Take a banger, slow it down, piano only accompaniment, overly emotional singer. Pish.

Tell your kids I say so.
