Lloyd's not a flyhalf. However much some Welshies seem to want him to be one, he performs best on the wing. When he has played 10 for Bristol it's usually served as a reminder as to why Sheedy is preferred.
I do think this Welsh squad looks pretty unimpressive, but I've though that most of the last few years. Sometimes they live down to expectations and sometimes they surpass them.

Scotland squad. Well done to Gregor Townsend on including a few backs from London Irish so Ireland don't have to. The Federation of Female Rugby Fans approves.

God knows why Priestland is in ahead of Jarrod Evans, I'm not aware that JE is injured. I haven't been that impressed by Lane in the past but he scored a couple of decent tries against Harlequins, maybe Cuthbert's superior defence gets him the nod. For the absence of doubt that's facetious.
We thought Carre was going to be good when Saracens took him on when he was about 20 but he hasn't progressed much.

I am surprised to see Marchand in that squad. Is he back from his injury?
It's a good question. Somewhere else I posted that he and Guitoune seem to be permanent sick notes. TBH, I'd like him back. Much as I think Chat is far more useful around the park, Marchand is the only one who is reasonably consistent with lineout throwing. Chat blows hot and cold. Bourgarit is too unreliable for intl level. Mauvaka is getting a lot of headlines for scoring tries but I really don't think he is anywhere near as effective (yet) as the other round the park. If Chat's throwing could be fixed, I'd argue that Fra has the best 2 hookers in the NH at the moment.
I think Mauvaka showed much more than the 5 anecdotal tries he scored in 3 games this autumn. He is dynamic, pretty good in the ruck, moves around the park, good scrummager and pretty good lineout thrower. Marchand is the undisputed number 1, but Mauvaka is a luxury number 2.

Good news for a change from the Politicians; Ireland is opening up again from tomorrow morning; so unrestricted crowds for the 6N, & I think the only real restriction will be masks still required on Public Transport; & in small shops etc.

Transition time for the Welsh. I think they are going to struggle and even their amazing ability to perform greater than the sum of their parts isn't likely to see them challenging for a few years.

Christ has caught Covid!!!
Christ Tshiunza has tested positive for Covid-19.
The Wales back-row has been forced into isolation after returning a positive test on Monday - making him an immediate doubt for Wales' tournament opener against Ireland.
A Welsh Rugby Union statement read: "After returning a positive lateral flow test on Monday’s entry screening, he immediately went into isolation.
"A subsequent PCR test taken on Monday confirmed the result. He will now isolate as per government guidelines."

Is Wales lock depth so poor that they'd actually be using him? Unsurprisingly for such a young player, he only occasionally makes the Chiefs' bench.

Off the top of my head at the least Beard, Rowlands, Carter and Davies would be ahead of him.

Judging by the European Cup mess, COVID could wreak havoc in this year's tournament.
France start their training camp with having to call 9 new players from the list posted above, most of those changes forced on France by COVID.

Omicron is ebbing across Europe; & most Countries are removing restrictions on gatherings, & to a slightly lesser extent, travel restrictions.
What really matters, is that they are also changing the isolation rules; If the 6Ns get ahead of this; & allow Countries to have larger squads, & to name teams on the day before; with players who've had; say; three days of negative tests; & they're fully vaccinated; & totally exclude un-vaccinated morons; from all squads; they protect the teams, the public; & the schedule; & stick two fingers up to the anti-vax vegetables.

France still hasn't reached the peak of contaminations. There could be a few surprises in our squad. Question is whether some other teams will be contaminated while travelling I guess.

I really am beginning to think they should stop testing at elite level. The economic impact of cancelling 6N games again is horrendous and the chances of these guys coming down with anything much worse than a cold is quite small.

Elite sport or no, people should still know when they're infected so as to not spread it around. Sure, it's unlikely to hurt these guys, but it's not just them.

They can still stay in their bubbles and test on exiting maybe? It wouldn't be perfect, but as everything else is opening up it begins to feel a bit crazy that massive events like the 6N can be cancelled due to a few positives amongst elite athletes

Why do we think the 6n is going to be cancelled? Seems very unlikely to me.
Just not testing people until the end of the tournament seems like a great way to infect everyone.

Having just seen covid burn through 2 of my four person household, all young men late 20s - early 30s in decent physical condition, you absolutely want to keep testing and isolating your elite athletes. If nothing else it can knock them out sufficiently that they can't train for a few days and maybe take a few more to get back on their feet and up to speed again.
