Interestingly, it has more sugar than any other 'sauce' on the South African market. Around 50% sugar IIRC.

Edit: Just checked it's like 90% sugar.

Did you know that Mitchells Brewery in Knysna has closed down?

I was just thinking that I haven't seen their beer in ages, and would have thought that with the explosion of craft beers they would be doing well.

Sadly they closed their doors in 2019.

I tried squeezing a sachet of tomato paste into an All Gold bottle after reading this thread. Not bad, restores some of the acidity and cuts the sweetness.

Ja, been closed for a while. Their Milk & Honey Ale was quite lekker.

Wonder what happened. Probably got pushed out of the market with all the micro breweries popping up in Cape Town and Joburg taking their biggest markets.

Coleman’s Hot English Mustard...like God intended.

Hot English Mustard is a very good alternative, but HP Sauce is still the best with a pork sausage. Especially in a roll or on a sandwich.

I like both. Probably prefer Mrs Balls on a wors roll, but there is nothing like HP especially with breakfast. Also the perfect accompaniment with cottage pie.

I am not fond of sweet food.......unless a decent Sweet and sour sauce or sweet chilli sauce that tastes proper.

I was so dissapointed in the Asian food we had tried over the weekend....
Supposedly a good Eatery and the Pork was dry and the sweet chilli sauce looked more tomato sauce than Sweet Chilli....

Tried another eatery later in the weekend , got proper food but the sweetchilli sauce was the same....

I don't know whether they are using the same supplier but I cannot imagine anything worse....I almost never eat Tomato sauce unless on a hot dog.

Always squeeze fresh lemon juice over on the braai, no mater what meat it is. Helps keep the meat tender but I've never done it with wors. I would think the acidity would damage the skin causing it to rapture. No need to spice wors anyways, the spices are already on the inside.

Where did you eat?

Make your own sweet chilli.
Blitz 🌶 chilles in a blender.
Make a simple syrup with sugar and water on the stove.
Add chillies, a bit of coriander and a splash of lemon juice.
