Bring Morne back.

I don't think anyone can argue with that, but Pollard's injury is serious. We may have to prepare for someone else to wear the Bok 10 jersey, worst case scenario.average joe wrote: Mon Oct 05, 2020 6:31 am Moernaai is one calf Strain away from pension. I'll rather they gave a youngster a fair go than bring back outoppie Steyn. With Pollard out it's only fair that Jantjies gets his turn. Bring in a youngster to back him up. I know next thing you'll ask is which youngster. It doesn't matter, just pick one and stick with him.assfly wrote: Mon Oct 05, 2020 6:35 amI don't think anyone can argue with that, but Pollard's injury is serious. Actually he was bloody good in England in December and January. It's only when he goes back to WP that his form drops.handyman wrote: Mon Oct 05, 2020 10:00 am I was prepared to give Willemse time to develop. He had 6 months in lockdown to get fit and his head in the right place, but imo he's poorer than ever. I would tell him to go to England and work on his game and come back a better player. I want him out of WP.

Now wait....haven't we seen this before??![]()
Hasn’t this been the trend with most schoolboy “prodigies”? Fantastic world beaters at school, skipping the normal U/21 route straight into senior sides, then struggling to match the hype. Has there been an example that did not have a slump? My opinion is the talent will eventually shine through if the player isn’t broken in the process. Maybe time away from the hyped environment, e.g. France or England isn’t a bad thing For a young player.handyman wrote: Mon Oct 05, 2020 10:00 am I was prepared to give Willemse time to develop. I sort of disagree.............................................. we have a way of hyping a player up, just because he was great at school level. they play SA and are snapped up by a Union and are promoted into the senior side.assfly wrote: Tue Oct 06, 2020 6:02 am Provincial bias aside, I think he could do with a change of environment. He's clearly a very talented kid, but this jumping between 10 and 15 hasn't done him any good and I'm bit surprised at how the media have thrown him under the bus this week.
A year or two away from the South African rugby public, like France or Japan, could do him the world of good.
Yes I agree with that too.Chilli wrote: Tue Oct 06, 2020 6:32 am I sort of disagree.............................................. we have a way of hyping a player up, just because he was great at school level. they play SA and are snapped up by a Union and are promoted into the senior side.
This is where I think that the Varsity Cup is so important. AND the youngster playing off the bench behind a senior Tutor in a CC and then a bigger competition for a season or 2. Then at the age of 22/23/24 he is mature and experienced enough to start.
After being so overhyped the youngsters expect to start in the senior side, when they are just not mature enough.
New Zealand often say : if you are good enough, you are old enough, BUT they look after and nurture their youngsters.........assfly wrote: Tue Oct 06, 2020 6:38 amYes I agree with that too.Chilli wrote: Tue Oct 06, 2020 6:32 am I sort of disagree.............................................. we have a way of hyping a player up, just because he was great at school level. they play SA and are snapped up by a Union and are promoted into the senior side.

I think it's easy to become obsessed with young players, it's like we're looking for the next Frans Steyn when he came into the Bok picture.
Agree about putting them through the systems. Even some of those youngsters who played in the Green vs Gold game, I wondered if it's right to thrust them into the limelight so soon and expect miracles.
Agree with all of that, my comments were specific to Willemse, the U/21 and VC bolt for him has been shot, for him Japan or whatever is a good idea. For other prodigies, or for that matter any laaitie who wants to be a pro rugby player, your pipeline is ideal.Chilli wrote: Tue Oct 06, 2020 6:32 amI sort of disagree.............................................. we have a way of hyping a player up, just because he was great at school level. they play SA and are snapped up by a Union and are promoted into the senior side.assfly wrote: Tue Oct 06, 2020 6:02 am Provincial bias aside, I think he could do with a change of environment. Good example. That guy was a talented flyhalf. Would have loved to have seen him get a few more tests for the Boks to settle down.

He already went to England, no? With the Saracens, no less. Could be a great player, so it's frustrating. I'm sure there's a new Paarl Gim 14 year old coming through though, so there is no need to worry about Pollard's injuryhandyman wrote: Mon Oct 05, 2020 10:00 am I was prepared to give Willemse time to develop. Willemse isn't perfect, but anyone thinking about putting a 19 year old laaitie with almost zero top-level experience into the Bok team ahead of Willemse needs to see a doctor.Sards wrote: Wed Oct 07, 2020 8:20 am has anyone been following the Willemse saga on fb.....VOK ME......Anyone that criticises him is a " bloody racist......who just want the white boy Kade to leapfrog Willemse ..."
