Ignore the Kiwis on here, lads. They have suffered less Covid strife (4 whole days without KFC or something?) than anyone else and think the rest of us actually give a fuck about money in Rugby in 2020?

Selfish wankers can go poke a wooden spoon up their arses.

It's not a good look to be the RWC holders and not being able to field a team against opposition that are desperately wanting to prove a point.
Or caring about the damage to the brand.
There are more than enough players abroad to field a team.I would rather see what Nienaber has to offer than wonder.
I am embarrassed about this.
Since when do we shirk our responsibility as RWC holders. As Springboks.

Sards, you are one of the few South Africans who are talking sense

It's sad to see so many of your countrymen boasting that SARU's decision to destroy the Rugby Championship is a good thing, or a necessary thing. Yesterday was a sad day in the history of Rugby, because it signalled the end of a era of co-operation in SH Rugby that had extended from 1996 to the present day. I also do not believe that the SARU fully realise the financial implications of their decision.

Sards, do you seriously think that you can play top level professional immediately after a six months layoff without risking both injury and humiliation?

I doubt even AC does and I suspect that his motivation for calling us selfish is that it wouldn't worry him to see the Springboks sustain injuries, and he would love to see us humiliated.

The Argentinians aren’t afraid of playing after a lay off. They are in Australia training, right now.

What is it that they have that your Springboks don’t, do you think?

Balls?
Heart?

The Argentinians aren't the current Champions, though, so they would probably have less to lose in terms of defeats.

Do you know when they resumed playing rugby?

Most of the supporters are saying good decision because we will get a hiding. Being underprepared.
I say bullshit. We are the champions. We should believe that we can beat anyone. And be able to beat anyone.

It is a cowardly decision .

Meanwhile, with half the country in Level 3 lockdown... sport (without crowds) goes on pretty much as normal here. International matches, Premier League, even Rugby Finals where half the teams have Covid...

We may never have a vaccine that lasts more than a few months anyway, so we should try and learn to live with Covid, like gun crime in the US and old age elsewhere... it's here to stay... adapt... hiding only lasts so long... eventually you have to come out and face the new reality...

I don’t think an South Africans or SARU are disagreeing with you. The issue was just time and timing and government regulations.

Our players need more local game time that is available to get match fit, and the timing of the proposed tournament poses a new challenge to get access to our European based players, finally ambiguity over travel restrictions imposed by our governments blundering Covid response adds yet another layer of unwanted distraction and complexity.

We should be ready to resume life as relatively normal next year. The time crunch was just insurmountable for us.

NZR lost money on Super Rugby Aotearoa. The TV rights had already been sold, and they got less $ because the comp was shorter. than the original SR comp.

NZR makes 80% of its TV rights revenue from the Rugby Championship, which the SARU destroyed.

No, we simply wanted South Africa to fulfil their obligations. The SARU has always been a wretched organisation so I'm disappointed but not surprised by their dishonest. We all remember that they didn't let black players represent the Springboks until relatively recently. The SARU embraced Apartheid. What kind of disgusting organisation would do that?

As right as you may be. We live in a vokked up country. We have totally incompetent leaders who only know how to steal. We have a country devided on racial politics in favor of the majority of one that blames the minority for everything to brainwash the majority. There is so much corruption going on that its in the press daily. The government is trying to take the land away from white people to give it to black people without compensation. Crime and theft is increasing. White people are excluded from employment opportunities.

What quality management do you think would tolerate living in these conditions. ... thats what you are dealing with. Good luck looking for honor and honesty

I'm unfortunately not that familiar with how Argentina responded to Covid and what restrictions were put in place by their government, so I can't comment.

Our Covid regulations were extremely onerous.
We went into Level 5 lockdown on 27 March. No sport, no public gatherings.

Professional Rugby players were only allowed to do in-group training without any contact and only outdoors in August.
Before September inter-provincial travel was also restricted, and contact training was only allowed as of 1 September.
As soon as it was allowed the first actual matches were played on 27 September and the players have been played every weekend since trying to get back match fitness, but there just isn't enough time to get the domestic core squad to 400 mins of playing time, and it seems like the scheduling and insurance cost of getting our internationally based core players released was just a bridge too far.

And as the article stated, we also don't have clarity from our government on international travel and if the players will be allowed to leave or return.

No denying it is a shitshow, but hardly one caused by SARU.
