The response by Boris and cronies is both predictable and pathetic. And it shows they have by no way understood and accepted the mess they've made.

No, it's the opposition who want to deflect to party gate, to steer away from Boris conquering Covid and standing up to Putin. :bimbo:
The levels of delusion and bluster are shocking, and proves the point that those creatures shouldn't be near any form of government.

When a large the majority of the country knows Brexit is a turd I'm not sure touting it as a success is wise.

The problem the Tory MPs have is they've ignored one of the many first rules of politics "you can't beat someone with no one". This was partly by design, Johnson has promoted almost exclusively the morons/incompetents/compromised who don't threaten him and likely will not get into high office without him. Partly it's the fault of Tory MPs, the opening shots we've seen to replace Johnson have been about EU Single Market membership, once it goes beyond "get Brexit done" they don't seem to agree on the details. It's going to be hard for them to get behind one candidate if they're still divided over Brexit when it comes to the details.

The other problem Tory MPs have, is Johnson hasn't completely imploded yet. The Tories are polling at 30%-35% and Labour are polling 36%-40%. Sometimes the polling is quite close, sometimes it isn't. Johnson can credibly make the case they haven't got another campaigner as good as him, and only he could con enough people to overturn a small gap during an election campaign. Those polling numbers also now look to have solidified almost regardless of what the Tories/Johnson do.

Many Tory MPs are going to back him for those two reasons, it's how he got the job in the first place. No other credible candidates, fudge Brexit, lie/campaign better than anyone else. The smarter ones will realise it all gets worse for them the longer he's there.

Total guess, large rebellion of 140 MPs against him.

Jeremy Hunt has announced he'll be voting against Boris in a clearly subtle attempt to kick start his own leadership bid. Johnson's twitter attack dogs are going nuts

I don’t really get the hate for Hunt, I think he’s OK and would do a decent job.

Also not sure the vote tonight is as clear cut as some are saying. It’s very obvious that self interest is trumping everything at the moment. If the votes were known it might be a different matter of course, but there are a lot of power hungry cunts there at the moment.

He only looks good compared to the current shitshow of incompetence and because he's quietly evil unlike, say, Gove. He's very much one of the hawkish 'sell everything brigade'.

So what are these 'big decisions' that Boris has got right?!!
The cabinet members cannot get enough of that line, but none of them are naming any big decisions....

Tory members want him gone according to polling.

Tory donors want him to stay. Nothing a donor likes more than a weak shyster who owes you there position and has no ideologies at all.

And this is sort of a problem for him because it's basically what he's telling his own troops, and pretty much all he's telling his own troops. And the issue here is normally No. 10 would have had the weekend and today doing a big phone banking session, talking to the the troops, even calling them in (in groups) to chat face to face, which is to say a drilled and professional response, instead almost all that's been put out there is the email to MPs and the odd shout out in public from Mad Nad and a few others, and the actual coordinated/professional lobbying is coming from those who want him out.

Whether No. 10 is failing in this because Boris has previously promised stuff to his MPs in return for support and then oddly for Boris not delivered, or Boris is just a feckless wanker, or both is up for debate. For sure the response from No. 10 to this should impress nobody, there's even a good few senior No. 10 staff are still slinking back from holiday because none of them last week realised this was about to happen

All of which might get us from a 3% chance he loses to an 8% chance he loses at best. But there remains the (increasing) hope the win might be such he loses anyway.

Yes Labour supporters might want to keep him for their GE chances, but it's not about Labour, it's about the country not having a cheat and a craven liar in No. 10

I've no idea how we read this one. There is as of a couple of hours ago No. 10 was lagging behind where Theresa May's office was on the day of her confidence vote in terms of people having committed support, maybe that puts Boris at more risk, maybe the MPs think Boris will sell off more family silver to protect himself than May would have done and they can eek more from No 10 now. But then and now what people say and how they vote could well prove different

Had a “Did they really say that moment?” driving down the M11. ND said something on the lines of the donors have spoken, that may well be true but to be open about was astonishing. Or admirably honest.

What worries me is that if he survives, then he'll move even further to the right, as that's the only game he knows.

He'll have to create enough turmoil, to make getting rid of him impossible, & the best way of doing that is Northern Ireland, & starting a trade war

Why should the cost of transport be inflated by outdated practices that have nothing to do with safety?

Why should the cost of childcare be pushed up by unnecessary rules on child-minding?
As a parent with young children this is terrifying
