If Aus get fined for slow overs, then referee will be extra-vigilant on India when they bowl. This is not rocket surgery.

India in some trouble at 78 - 5 but Pant has decided fuck this and just hit the second fastest 50 in Indian test history (29 balls) with two successive sixes off Starc.

The ICC has sanctioned a new T20 league across Ireland, Scotland and The Netherlands to run from 15th July to 3rd August 2025.

No further details atm, but I’d be surprised if it’s anything other than six teams, two per country, play each other twice, top two in a final. Best of their domestic talent, plus a number (3?) of overseas high paid players I reckon. Hope it gets decent coverage.

Saw an interesting stat. Of all batsmen with 9000+ test runs, Kohli is the only one without a 50+ average in a country that isn't hisnl home country.

Rocky Flintoff with a ton for the Lions.

He was shaky in the CC this year but plenty of potential there at 16.

Could do with Brook sticking around for a bit here.

I'm not sure what the commentators are talking about re. the substitution - have India been up to shenanigans?

eta:@ Ah. It seems India used a concussion sub to pick a bowler more suited to conditions and wasn't like-for-like. That seems a bit subjective to me.

The substitution was as dodgy as it comes, as the Indians replaced a batter with a front line bowler who then took 3 wickets. However, England lost because of their own stupidity and dreadful shot selection and not because of Indian cheating.

That sub was bollocks. Like for like my hole. That is as obvious a case of India has to win as I’ve seen. Properly corrupt bullshit.

A batsman for a bowler? Nope, that's deplorable.

What were the umpires doing?

The batsman is an allrounder with a decent bowling record in t20s. But it's still farcical to allow them to sub in a pace bowler with a batting average of 1 in t20s.

For all England's failings, the guy was the 6th bowler used, bowled his full allotment, took 3 wickets for 33 and all of them big run threats. England lost by 15. Hard to argue it didn't have huge impact on the game.

Excellent result for Ireland - winning the only test v Zimbabwe. Spun them out in the 4th innings with Humpreys taking 6 wickets in just his 3rd test. That's 3 test match wins on the trot for Ireland !!

I'm amazed that Matt Kuhnemann has gotten right through to test level before anyone has reported his bowling action. Not saying he is chucking, just amazed that it hasn't been questioned locally.

I'm struggling to get excited for the Champions Trophy - not sure if it's cricket fatigue or indifference to the tournament itself.

It doesn't help England have been far from their best, with some recent dull one-sided affairs, but that used to be the standard for England not that long ago.

So hard to be bothered - England will likely be awful and tell us it doesn’t matter, the draws are comically rigged (incidentally do any English/Oz fans actually care that much about playing each other in an ODI?), India have thrown all their toys out the pram *again* and got their way again of course.

Whatever rugby’s issues, we should be thankful that internationals really do matter in it and are worth watching

NZ restrict the Bangers to 236 off their 50 overs. Seems like a good pitch. I am not underestimating the Craps ability to craft a losing position from a good winning chance.

It looks more likely to have a water polo match than cricket. This is going to make England vs Saffers very very interesting. Unless the Afghans turn England over tomorrow.

And what will come as a shock to absolutely no one, Mark Wood has gone down with an injury. He’s only ever fit enough to play one match in a tour or tournament. At some point England are going to have to drop him due to him being so fragile.

And Wood hobbles back onto the field. Clearly bot right. So Buttler gets him to bowl and now he’s broken him properly. Off he goes again.

Going on the reports it sounds like a flat pitch, but we've been abject against decent spinners so this probably won't go well.

Just to add a tangent to the thread - it's 50 years ago since this happened. I remember watching it live
In a Test match between NZ and England in 1975, NZ's last pair was battling to push the match to a draw.
Ewen Chatfield, the number 11 batsman was frustrating the England bowlers. He had batted for more than an hour.
Bowlers started bowling short at him and one bouncer from Peter Lever struck the left temple of Chatfield. He fell on the ground, was moaning in pain and eventually lost consciousness. England players called their physio (Bernard Thomas) on the ground because New Zealand didn't have one.
By the time Thomas came, Chatfield's heart stopped beating. These were signs of dying and Thomas called for resuscitation equipment only to find out their was none. Thomas tried to resuscitate Chatfield himself. In a while, Chatfield's heart started beating again but he was still unconscious. The ambulance came in time and he was taken to hospital where he regained stability.
When all this was going on, Peter Lever on the side went down in his knees and started crying on the field. He said: "I thought I had killed him. I was ashamed of myself and all I wanted to do was to go back to the pavillion and retire."
Bernard Thomas said it was the worst thing he has experienced. He told: "If we had not reached the hospital in time, he could have died".
When Peter Lever went to see him in the hospital, Chatfield told him that it was because of his slow reflexes and the bowler should not feel bad about his bouncer 🙂
PS: That was Ewen Chatfield's debut Test. In his first Test he had a near death experience
