From his letter, it seems that Sunak wasn't prepared to go along with the lies Boris was planning to spout next week:

"I firmly believe the public are ready to hear that truth. Our people know that if something is too good to be true then it's not true. They need to know that whilst there is a path to a better future, it is not an easy one.

"In preparation for our proposed joint speech on the economy next week, it has become clear to me that our approaches are fundamentally too different."

I’ll be happy to see the back of him but if BJ goes, Brexit will have effectively given us four prime ministers in six years. What a fiasco.

Unsurprising from Rees-Mong, but I'd have thought Truss would be savvier for her own chances of PM (lord forbid) and would have stayed schtumm and hidden in a dark corner. I don't think she has the moral fibre to even consider resigning though.

Truss is surely thinking she can say in the leadership election that she is loyal but deep down hope he goes.

I only caught the tail end of it a couple of weeks ago but there was something on the radio about Zelensky maybe making an appearance at the Tory Party conference.
I hope that doesn't happen obviously but understand Zelensky needs to do anything he can to keep Ukraine in the public eye in the West - a state visit to the Queen would obviously be the appropriate way of doing this.

The support for Ukraine is one of the things I would concede the government has gotten absolutely right and so much better than many other European nations. However trying to use it as a shield against current scandals its utterly pathetic and simply wrong.
I find it really distasteful considering Boris's pals, the London oligarchs and laundromat, lord lebedev.

Edit: not the support for Ukraine but it being a reason to keep Boris.

Nothing from Gove yet? He’s the one that pulled out of Bozos team for 1st tilt at top job as he basically said he’s a clown.

Sounds like they'll have to drag Boris out by his dodgy barnet. :problem:

Any other PM/politician would have salvaged a bit of honour and packed their stuff when both the Chancellor and Health Secretary resigned within 30 minutes of each other.

(though pretty shocking that the Pincher hasn't resigned or been made to resign as MP)

From twitter:

a chancellor who presides over one of the worst cost of living crises in a century and evades tax to the tune of tens of millions in tax while in office shouldn't be allowed to appear to resign as some 'principled' stance against something the tory hierarchy knew about years ago

That is the type of unsavoury character he (and all of them) are.

The big question is how ?

It seems his threats to call a GE are accurate, but does the flushing of the fixed term Parliament act give him the power ?

This government is totally unserious. Last week it was announced the Tories stopped a newspaper printed a story about Carrie performing oral sex on Johnson in the workplace when he was married having tried to get her numerous high paying jobs and that's the second known time he did something like that and not one of them batted an eye lid. There is not one cabinet member with even a shred of seriousness. They wouldn't have put up with him at all.

That Sunak hasn't been fired long before now over his tax affairs tells us a lot about this government and the parliamentary conservative party more broadly.

Whatever happens next with Johnson, people cannot be allowed to forget what a pack of cunts they all are.

But you're missing the vital factor. Johnson genuinely doesn't think the rules apply to him. How many times have we seen it? Everyone has thought 'for gods sake he can't brazen this out' and he has. You're counting on him having a scintilla of self awareness, humility, embarrassment, respect for other people or any of the other characteristics that make the rest of us normal.

He will not quit. He'll have to be removed.

Think he'll run out of people willing to be ministers? They don't have to be MPs. They can be Lords, or anyone else he chooses. They don't have to be approved by Parliament.

Even if he's removed as leader of the Conservative e party that doesn't mean he's automatically removed as Prime Minister. He can hang on to that until its taken away as well.

The lying shit bag will do everything he can to cling on. It will take weeks if not months to shift him

Mogg has already indicated the line they are going to take

Jacob Rees-Mogg also insists the PM can stay in office: “Over the centuries members of the Cabinet have come and gone and prime ministers who have a majority in the House of Commons are able to continue.”

He says he met Boris Johnson tonight after the resignations of Sajid Javid and Rishi Sunak and the prime minister's mood was very much "business as usual".

Also, he's been in office for thirty days less than Theresa May at this point, and hell never sleep again if he doesn't last longer than her.

And he needs to last another two days to beat Neville Chamberlain
