Can't see my annual trip to Le Touquet in June on that European schedule! We might need to bump up the prize money a little?

Off for my first round of the year later this morning. Kilspindie in sunny but chilly conditions - 3degrees but feels like -1. At least light winds and no chance of rain/snow. Wish me luck!
Playing Gullane No1 next Friday which should be fun.

Had possibly one of the best fourballs I have ever played in beautiful weather at Kilspindie on Thursday. Everyone playing superb. Lost to an eagle on the last but we had a fourball better ball of 14 under par. Golf is such a great game on those days.

Just back after early round at Kilspindie. A delayed start for the frost to lift but after than just glorious weather, blue skies, warm and little wind. Nice not playing off mats and putting on smooth greens. Drove and putted well but short game just plain awful! Always the next round to look forward to!

Well played Rory and an honorable mention for Bob fae Oban - now 14th in World rankings! Rory looked very calm and measured on the last day and wasn't going to get beat in the play off. Amazing how quiet it is when he wins but all the armchair critics come out when he narrowly loses. Season money leader so far and up to 2nd in the world rankings, nae bad! 741 weeks in the world top 10 since 2009 - only Woods, Els and Mickelson above him.

Bob has been looking very consistent since last summer. Might have a wee shot at a major this year.

It's such an enjoyable course. 5 or 6 of the par 4's are driveable for me but heaven help you if you aren't straight as you are pretty much always left with a brutal chip over bunkers.
Had a very odd encounter with a couple of old lads after I absentmindedly teed up and addressed my ball on 7, forgetting that you have to give way to the 10th green. Even though I quickly realised and stepped back I got an absolute tirade of abuse, "fucking wanker" etc from the two of them. Quite extraordinary how angry people get for very little reason.

That's the 11th green that has priority. That's unusual but remember Kilspindies membership is majority retired folk so there is a number of GOBs ... grumpy old bastards and they are usually the ones who duck hook their drives 50 yards left! . Usually the stand off is 'after you ... no after you' sort of thing! In all seriousness they have shifted the fairway further to the right, added an extra bunker on the left within driving distance and filled in the bunker that was on right hand edge of the fairway to try and get folk to aim further right of the tee. However with the beach on that side many folk are cautious and end up on the 11th fairway.

Yeah, sorry the 11th. I fully understand the need to give priority it's just the instant aggression from a couple of men in their late 60's that is so bizarre. I quickly acknowledged my mistake and replied "calm down lads, it was just a brief mistake" but you really want to match over and ask the silly pricks if they want to continue their abuse. The lad I was a guest off was pretty angry and was fully intent on finding out who they were and putting in a complaint.
Anyway, just one of my favourite places to play and I feel very lucky to have a couple of contacts.

Off to play Fraserburgh, Cruden Bay and Scotscraig next few days - not played any of them so it should be fun! Anyone had the pleasure of hacking round them? Looks like we struck lucky with the weather.
PS Master pick is Xander Schauffele for me!

Well for the first time ever I have been properly fitted for a set of clubs and given my rather erratic short, flat swing it was a really surprising outcome. Blades!!!
Taylor Made P770, 5 to PW. Extra stiff Nippon shafts, 3 degrees upright and 1/2 inch longer. My amateur fat grip measurement on my old clubs was spot on so identical grips.
The 6 iron went from 148 yards carry to 172 but oddly 20 feet higher. The better dispersal was obvious. I apparently generate such low spin that the extra height will help me stop it better. He also reckoned there was only 2 to 4 yards difference between my 4 and 5 irons but given the less accuracy it's not worth carrying a 4 iron and I will get fitted for a 4 hybrid. Current wedges are ideal.
He also said I should chuck my 3 wood as I will never hit it well with my flat swing which explains why I never hit it well.

I also swapped my 4 iron for a 4 hybrid. I use it more than any other club in my bag (well except the fucking putter!)

I hope to get them the week before I'm away on a golf trip to Vilamoura. Not sure I'll have the bottle to put them in the bag or just rely on the trusty 22 year old Titleist 704's. I'm notorious careful of just about everything I have, whether it be golf clubs, bikes, tools and the lad couldn't believe the great condition of the Titleists

I got fitted for Taylormade P790s a year ago - got Recoil Dart F3 shaft 2 degrees upright with Golf Pride regular multi-compound grips. Beautiful clubs when I hit them properly, high flight, 10 yard longer and better dispersion. I got a 4 iron which I actually hit better than my 4 hybrid funnily enough. I heard that this has been one of the best springs ever for Taylormade and they are selling like hotcakes. Unfortunately they are struggling with supplies a little so if you haven't got them yet there might be a few extra weeks wait?

I use a 20 year old set of Mizuno MX23s and I only play about 2 rounds a year. However, I played a few weeks ago in a work event and one of the fellas there had a Chinese clone set of those TaylorMade 790s. They looked really good, superb finish and feel. Think they cost about Β£150 off AliExpress for a 4-PW set of irons. At Β£15 a club, they're virtually disposable.

I'm just extremely concerned to see that Rory is playing the same clubs. Beginning to think the fitter is taking the piss.

3 pars win it because no one is making any birdies.
