WTF is Zahawi up to?
PM in 'buoyant mood' and will announce economic plan with new chancellor tomorrow
Boris Johnson's parliamentary private secretary James Duddridge has told Sky News the PM is in a "buoyant mood and will fight on".
"He has a 14 million mandate and so much to do for the country," Mr Duddridge said.
"I expect him to make senior cabinet appointments this evening and am looking forward to hearing what the PM and his fantastic Chancellor Nadhim Zahawi have to say tomorrow."
He says there will be a joint plan for the economy laid out by Mr Johnson and Mr Zahawi tomorrow.

Nadhim Zahawi 'will not resign' a day after being made chancellor
A source close to Nadhim Zahawi has said he is not resigning as chancellor - a day after he was appointed - after claims he was part of the delegation of MPs telling the PM to go.
The source told Sky's political correspondent Liz Bates: "He wants to focus on lowering the tax burden and help with the cost of living stuff at the department."
They added that Mr Zahawi is "realistic" about the scale of the challenge (ie the number of resignations).

I know Duddridge pretty well, an absolute lightweight and one of those people that always ends up on the wrong side

Fair play to Boris, sacking him is great banter.
But surely he's going to have to fire half the cabinet now?

Two more MPs resign - total of 41 quit
James Daly, a ministerial aide at the department of work and pension, has resigned.
David Mundell has also resigned as UK trade envoy to New Zealand.
Mr Mundell said he is "very disappointed" Mr Johnson has not listened to colleagues telling him to stand down.
He added that he sent a letter of no confidence in the PM to the 1922 Committee earlier this week and asked for another vote tot ake place "as a matter of urgency".

These trade envoys must be really pissed off with Johnson if they're voluntarily giving up the Bunga Bunga and pink gin circuits.

So, it's going to come down to the elections to the 1922 Committee - just needs enough anti-Boris MPs to be elected and change the rules. Given the mass resignations it's inconceivable that there won't be enough to see a new vote of confidence early next week.

Presumably the various candidates will campaign on their plans to reform the process ?
Given that he only sneaked thru the last VoC, because he had so many MPs on the payroll, & now there's ~40 more free to vote the conscious, he's buggered whatever way you slice it.

He’ll try and cling on even if he loses a vote of confidence. He’ll claim that he has a mandate from the electorate and that’s all that matters. Like when Corbyn lost a vote of confidence and claimed his mandate came from Labour Party members and not MPs.

If he loses a party VoC then HMTQ would have to appoint whoever is the next leader of the Conservative Party as PM wouldn’t she? Presumably the Conservative Party has a process for quickly naming a temporary leader while they go through the process of selecting a new one.
I suppose in theory he could lose a party VoC but still win one in the HoC, illogical as that might seem. On the basis that I think in the HoC they’re usually VoC in the government and not the PM. I think.

Probably - but I can't see his cabinet staying in place if that was the case. I wonder what the process is if he just point balnk refused, no matter what. Could the party withdraw the whip and effectively remove him from office.

Anything you say about him that includes ‘he would have to’ is probably wrong. In that instance you’re still expecting him to behave like anyone else. And he won’t.because he doesn’t believe he should.

Blonde Bumblecunt is in effect holding the Tory Party captive in a hostage situation! They are well and truly fucked. He is trying to do a Trump here and no doubt will have some cunning plan dreamt up by Baldrick aka JRM to remain in power no doubt based on some dodgy interpretation of 15th century constitutional law. This is absolutely nuts now.

Whenever a realignment of UK politics is discussed it’s almost always seen as happening in the Centre/Left. It’ll be funny if it happens by the Conservative Party disintegrating.

Evidently the sacking, and demonising, of Gove has gone down very badly in the party - just in case things couldn't get any worse for the PM. Whilst not a very popular individual, he was seen as one as the most competent ministers.

It's the, "Adults in the room", thing. They don't need to agree with everything in Cabinet, & because of that, they are valued by the rest of the Party, because they know they aren't halfwits, who will happily burn the world down, for another day in power.

Senior No 10 source putting a positive spin on struggles to fill vacant ministerial posts:
"Maybe this is a good opportunity to slim down government. We are focusing on delivering and the economy and this is an opportunity to do less better”
Seriously hard to tell parrot from parody at this stage.
Absolutely nuts. And I will be disappointed if Boris doesn't start boarding up windows and exits and fortifying the place.

It is very funny Braverman binned Johnson on air and said she wants to be PM but doesn't consider that a resigning matter. I enjoyed that a lot.
But she has the f*cking nerve in her speech to speak about her pennyless parents coming to England and how proud she is Britain took them in and gave her opportunities. Someone along with Patel who is doing all they can so others can't do that.

Question for the constitutional experts: Usually if a PM is unable to form a government, they go to the monarch and advise that they pick someone else. In this case Johnson is clearly unable to form a govt, yet refuses to resign. At what point is the Queen allowed to intervene and pick a successor?

Really galling, if someone like her had been around when her parents came to the UK they would have been forced on a flight to Rwanda, and she would not have had the benefits this (she doesn't say my) country has given her, benefits she's so incredible grateful for.

I remain convinced that Johnson will actually have to be physically removed from cabinet like Assange was from the embassy.
Gove can have a leg. Teresa will have the balls, Javid will have an arm. Not sure about the rest.
Johnson seems to believe that we have a presidential system.
