If they were that amazing why didn't they just walk straight to it along the underside, like a bunch of them are proving they can already do? They're dumb enough to play for Eddie IMO.
When we were in Tanzania, the locals would warn us of any incoming march and if they were headed towards your house, the routine was to open doors & windows (back and front) and let them ride right on through. As long as no food, tied pets or babies around, you were fine. Just needed to be patient. However, some Americans a few houses away had them come their way and decided to go full on retard with the DDT from the pump canisters. The ants scattered everywhere and they were still finding (and being bitten by) them months later. I can testify how much that hurts. I was attacked by them in my bed once whilst in QE Game Park. Staff had to use fire extinguishers to get the b*stards off.
So powerful are the jaws of the soldiers, the African used them as a form of stitches for deep wounds. Would get the ants to bite in a bridge across the wound and then snap off their heads.
I remember a film called Marabuntu when I was a kid. Scared the hell out of me!

Did anyone see the bit in the new Attenborough series with the ants in the Amazon making themselves into a floating island when the rains came? That was impressive
I remember that episode. Gave me nightmares for weeks.

The most dangerous of all animals. By and large, everyone feared lions, crocs etc but hippos are bad tempered and unpredictable bastards + they are quick in water and on land. Always steered well clear of them.

We get safari ants around here, especially before the rains. Quite incredible things to watch as they make their way across the land.
We always know they're coming because hours before they arrive all other creatures are clearing out. Spiders, beetles, lizards, spiders moths, they all know what's coming. Even our dogs get agitated.
This is a fairly common site on our road and can go on for days, regardless of how many cars drive over them:

I got rushed by a hippo in Queensway, Swansea once. Never again. Is that what you meant by QE?
