Been playing guitar over this track for the last three weeks.
Top tip.
E Mixolydian mode works a treat.
Bit of D lydian, E Mixolydian tapping...always look for outside notes and your wah wah pedal.

This song gives me so much joy.

I am humming the melodies I created constantly.
It's funny you guys may derive pleasure from music, I derive utter pleasure, joy, happiness, excitement, meaning, purpose, ...and these are just two musical scales I am talking about.
Learn a f'cking instrument is what I am saying.

Joy.
Not sure (as I don't know you, so don't know if capable) if you have ever experienced complete joy, in an artistic, creative, fulfilling satisfying level.. but honestly..I am just smiling like a f'king lunatic when I play along to this song.
Two Scales.

Music is the best.

It is a canvas.
Music is a participation sport.
Mixolydian with flat 3rds (what satriani termed a "mixo'dorian" tonality) is just joyous over this tune.

Such a great duo. Unrivalled in song writing at the moment.

I honestly never knew you existed until now.

I am talking to myself about passion, love, joy.
Trying to share it.whilst having a sensational time with myself.
It is like you guys are getting pleasure out of watching or listening to people do drugs, whilst I am main lining crack.

Two scales, man.
We are not talking grade 8 music theory here.
At the end of the day not one of us can control anything.
What music we like.
What we as consumers " luck" upon...
We can only derive pure joy from what we create.

What, the guy who applied academia to rock music and inspired a universe of courses, musicians?
I must have missed the bit where hipsters are appalled by satriani.

Thanks. It's been a bumpy old couple of years - my stepfather and father passed away in quick succession last January, then a close cousin, then a close friend, and now Mum...

Fuck cancer.

That's a bloody rough run, I feel for you enduring all of that.

We've hit that age where the numbers just start working against us man. It's awful but the odds are increasingly against us. I remember reading something years ago, a quote from someone who'd reached an advanced age... he said the worst thing about living so long was losing all your friends and loved ones along the way. It's brutal and inescapable.

I moved back to NZ after nursing Mum for a couple of months before cancer got her. It's a bloody shocker to go through.

We got any Mahavishnu Orchestra fans in the house?

I never imagined I would be listening to jazz fusion, but I accidently stumbled onto these guys over Christmas and have become obsessed. John McLaughlin has to be one of the most amazing guitarists out there -- most of the hyper-technical guys have no ear for tunes, riffs, and/or actual songs, but he's just different. They have/had an amazing ability to build up momentum.

Sorry, I'm rambling, here's the choons:

(that riff that kicks in at 40 seconds owns my soul...)

These might be my two faves but they have so many good ones. Terrific live performances too:

Fun fact: the guy on keyboards would later go on to write the Miami Vice theme.

I also have it on good authority that we got some Talking Heads fans in the house...

So you're probably familiar with Adrian Belew, who was briefly a session/touring member in the early 80s for them. You can spot him in some of the live videos from then.

What you may not know is he joined King Crimson shortly thereafter and helped them put out some solid tracks that, ahem, clearly incorporate some of the elements from his time in the Heads. (It's funnier if you're familiar with King Crimson's early work, which is pretty much the antithesis of the THs' kinetic, lively style). This includes some unsubtle attempts at a Byrne impression on vocals.

But KC always had sensational musicians (namely Robert Fripp on guitar) so it works, often very well.

(seriously, he owes Byrne a check for that one)

Contemporary Aussies doing amazing 80s style synth-rock. Keys, thumping bass, electric drums, sax, killer guitar solo, falsetto and a key change!

The lad on the left shows some subtle body language acting talent when the other one steals the girl from him, but looking them up it turns out he's a pro actor/director too.

Because I'll forget this Friday... a wonder this doesn't seem to get played on the radio any more here.
