I wonder how many guitarists could be identified simply by ear: assuming they were not playing a well known piece of theirs?
Johhny Marr would be among very few I suspect. Hendrix simply because very few people could do what he could.
Neil Young and Jimmy Page perhaps?

That's kind of what I was getting at when I started the thread. Page is so brilliant he could play anything, likewise Clapton, but I was thinking about people who made their own sound.

There's very few I could identify simply by listening to them play something I don't associate with them.
Hendrix
Santana
Billy Gibbons, maybe.
Mark Knopfler

He can't be that distinctive, that's twice now he's appeared on this thread.
Though his output was extremely limited, John McKay.

Allan Holdsworth, with those freaky finger stretches
Very famous in the area, there is a great little Concert venue Called "Le Plan" in Ris Orangis. He played there and has a street named after him not far from the venue.
Pretty much every well known recorded guitarist that comes to mind has their own unique, recognisable style. From Josh Homme to Hendrix, Buzz Osborne to Bo Diddley, Kim Thayil to Clapton, Adam Franklin to Frusciante.

Joey Santiago has a unique style that is incredibly distinctive. Not a technical wizard but provides the key textures that make the Pixies what they are.
one of the best gigs I ever went to was The Pixies at the crystal palace bowl. 16 jumping around at the front there somewhere...
