One of the very few tracks where I love the original and the cover (though it's probably more of a sample than a full blown cover)

Simply amazing cover, even the original band themselves gave it a standing ovation

Just for the lovely harmonies and the fact you can hear how every instrument adds to the melody - and a double bass solo.

Only for them to be covered, by my favorite cover of all times.

First and only take, and she had a cold. Rather impressive.

Great singer. Worth checking out her other stuff too.

Wouldn't mind covering her if you know what I mean.

I quite like the original Smiths song, but this genre-hopped electro version has stuck with me for years.

Love this Sound of Silence cover by Disturbed.

Saw someone describe it as the accusation of ignoring the warning of the original, seems like a nice description.

I do like an opinion that goes against the perceived or fashionable wisdom, most people love the Disturbed's version, as far as I can see. I liked it when it first surfaced then I grew to dislike the popularity it got over the original.

I think the Disturbed version is alright, the original is strong enough to survive whatever someone else might do to it, and that is the sign of a great song.

They couldn't possibly miss the point of the original more if they made a concerted effort to do so.

And yet the writer of the song likes it...

A terrible cover by a godawful band.

Listen carefully and you'll hear him using autotune in a couple of places.

For a similar arrangement of the song, Pentatonix has an amazing version.

Then again, every cover by Pentatonix is amazing and should be in this thread. Especially their cover of Bohemian Rhapsody, and their 90's Medley.

Better than the original imho.

Ann Wilson has one of the best voices in rock - ever. She could sing the yellow pages and I'll be mesmerized by her voice.

The Van Morrison version is seared into my memory from a very special day when I was 16...but that's another story.
