Bad day for Australian cricket, only 52
Nothing but admiration for him, as a pathetically poor "leg-spinner" myself he gave inspiration to a genre of bowling that was really dying out in E&W cricket and he was a true artist with the ball. The famous wicket of Gatting of course is rightly legend.
RIP

Absolulely stunned by that news - only 52. Best spinner I ever saw. RIP Warnie.

He certainly bowled a few maidens over.
Live fast die young.

Fairly shocking news. Only 52 and he'd lost a fair bit of timber and was in decent shape. Rumours he liked the nose candy which isn't good for the ticker but still, a real shocker.

Christ, that's no age. A real love/hate player, you hated to see him destroying your batting lineup but couldn't help applauding a master of his craft.

It's a sign of the times now that whenever a sportsman dies young there's a bit of me that wonders about steroids, hormones and stimulants during a playing career having an effect in middle age.

I'm not sure those are the stimulants that spring to mind with Warne...
Really crappy news. It feels like the world started going downhill somewhere around 2015 & is now accelerating fast.
Perhaps it's just age. I remember a period when my mother was in her 40s & it seemed like all she talked about was who had died recently.

He used diuretics for weight loss didn't he at one stage. Hopefully he wasn't using anything to help his current weight loss regime.

Very sad.
He was the best slow bowler of all time.
Played the game just how it should be played.
He is one of the reasons why I loved cricket then.
Nothing like the robots who play the game today.

When you consider all he got up to, 52 isn't a bad innings. RIP, very few people can say they single handedly changed a sport, but he certainly did.
A legend and by all rights the real top test wicket taker. Was the inspiration for me to take up leg spin, sadly I can't match him on the hookers/coke front.

Guy was a legend and a superstar, I don't like cricket but everybody knew who he was outside of the sport. Probably one of the few to achieve mainstream recognition.

Quite possibly.
For decades, Thailand (in particular Pattaya) has been a magnet for bodybuilders, pro and amateur.
Great weather, great freely-available women, and cheap over-the-counter 'pharmaceuticals'.
A dozen years ago, it was big news in both the region and Australia when the famed ZYZZ died in a Thai sauna aged in his very early 20s.
ZYZZ was heavily into steroids but favored the sculptured look over mass.
Warne may have died on Koh Samui rather than Phuket.

Very sad, that’s so young these days.
Certainly one of the main reasons I started watching cricket and the main reason for busting a gut to get tickets for some Tests - “I saw him play” type stuff

I'd go with the best spin bowler of all time and, agree, by rights the top taker: Murali should have been banned for that abortion of an action.

Best and most influential cricketer I've seen, and he didn't get to play with DRS which would have made playing him much harder again.
