Lots of BILs in the squad. They also know SA conditions and players well. Springboks can't afford to underestimate them . We play this boring gameplan so this will be close.

The measuring will start this weekend with three URC matches between the two countries.

Had a go at selecting a wider squad for the Wales tour and RC. Based on who I think they will select and a couple of my own wishful thinking selections. Out of this lot would come our 2023 RWC squad. A shit load of players and the only real positional concern is at flyhalf.
Props - Koch, Kitshoff, Thomas du Toit, Malherbe, Fat Frans, Nyakane, Ox (All to be used and rotated)
Hookers - Marx, Bongi, Dweba/Grobelaar
Locks - Eben, Lood, Mostert, Orie, Nico Janse van Rensburg (RG Snyman injured)
Loosies - Kwagga, Vermeulen, Jasper, Elstadt, Kolisi, Roos, Dan du Preez, Juarno Augustus (Marco van Staden and PSDT haven't played rugby this year.)
Scrumhalf - Faf, Morne vd Berg, Herschel Jantjies (Reinach injured)
Flyhalf - Pollard, Elton J, Johan Goosen
Midfield - DDA, Esterhuizen, Am, Other fat Frans, Damian Willemse
Outside Backs - Willie le Roux, Gelant, Kolbe, Mapimpi, Fassi
Backup (deserving newbies and experienced campaigners)
Simphiwe Matanzima, Neethling Fouche, Lizo Gqoboko, Boan Venter
Akker vd Merwe
Salmaan Moerat, Adre Smith
Elrigh Louw, Nama Xaba, Phepsi, J L du Preez, V Tshituka (if he qualifies)
Paul de Wet, Jayden Hendrickse
Harold Vorster, Simelane, RJVR
Senatla, Tyrone Green, Tambwe (if he qualifies)

That looks like a pretty decent Wales squad to me. Any team with Alun of Wales is a good one. I was a bit surprised Sheedy isn't included.

Wales brings out the worst in us. I hope it is not going to be another dull and negative series like last years BIL.

Boan Venter
Is there more than one?
The Edinburgh Boan Venter underwent surgery a couple of weeks ago, I doubt that he'd be fit much before pre-season training later in the summer.

If our best 15 were fit and in form then I'd obviously be happier but important players like Wyn Jones , AWJ and North have hardly played at all this season. And I don't know how we've ended up in a situation where our full-back backups are all 10s playing out of position.

When is RG coming back ?
Re: Springbokke vs Wales

by OomStruisbaai
Asked on Saturday night whether the 6ft 9ins Springbok would be coming back in the near future, van Graan said: “No, I wish I could say yes. He's not coming back anytime soon.
“Again it’s an ACL as we've said with the previous one, we'll just take in chunks off his blocks of training.
“The one thing I'll say about RG is that he’s in within the squad and he's contributing everywhere that he can, whether it's next to the training pitch or in small little talks to someone like Tom Ahern and he’s such a big influence and is going to be phenomenal for Munster when he plays again."

Can't see Wales being anything other than being annihilated in SA.
Pivac has lost the Welsh public and pundits and probably quite a few players

Wales are great after crushing defeats and after their ego has been battered.
I expect a good close series, where this group of Welsh players come together and bond. Wales have experience, fitness, oh, and the entire western, English speaking world and Sky fucking sports replete with Stuart Barnes mocking them and on their case..you don't think Liam Williams , Dan Biggar, Alun Wyn, Gareth Davies, Josh Adams and even Cuthbert won't f'king cherish that?
Wales are as good as anyone in the backs. And half decent in the forwards..The world cup starts now.
....no I haven't been on the crack pipe.

I,ll try to be conservative like Nienaber and keep it in the current squad.
Gelant/Fassi (wing and/or 15) , Amm, De Ellende, Mapimpi, F Steyn, Hendricks, Duanne, Vincent Tshituka, Kolisi, Orie, Moerat, Malherbe, Bongi, Ox
Kitshoff, Grobbelaar, Tank, Nortje, Elrich Louw, Roos, H Jantjes, Willemse

The fattest forward and the thinnest back in pro rugby. Some decent journeymen in there and some who I don't know how can maintain a pro contract.
