Stone is pretty funny when role-playing the commander and taking the whole thing far too seriously. The gang that he regularly plays with are fairly entertaining. Aculite, Stodeh, Jackfrags, Tomographic, etc. I don't think I'll ever be as relaxed as they are when they're playing.

Released the plague maiden by taking her bones off the island. Went back to Keira, convinced her not to sell the information, took the info off her (at least I think I did, assuming she didn't lie, switch them etc) and told her to go to Kaer Morhen. So I'm hoping I've at least avoided releasing yet another plague into the world that way.

Just entered Novigrad after doing a few of the side quests and contracts in Velen. Loads of stuff still to do there, but want to be a higher level before I return, since I've seen Griffins etc flying around and high level ghouls, just trying to be careful.

Thanks for the tip on using dodge and not roll with regards to stamina, hadn't paid attention. Currently not using signs enough I feel. Only improved Axii too make sure I can use mind control when I need it, otherwise it's almost all combat.
That's the best Keira outcome, she'll reappear later in the game for a bit, and anything else ends up with her dying one way or another. Did you bed her along the way?

Regardless of whether you go for oils/attacks/sign upgrades, aim to upgrade your fast attack tree to whirl, and max that out. It's the fourth level down of the leftmost red column below. I'm halfway through my second playthrough and have just discovered that this is done by holding square, not mashing it. Gives a 360° attack what rapidly whittles down enemies. Really useful when facing multiple opponents. Costs stamina, but it's really powerful. Looks slick, too.

I figured that was a good outcome, got Letho going there too, so I guess that's useful too.

Whirl was on the list, I've been focusing as much as possible on fast attacks, now they do as much damage as my strong attacks basically. Although against some enemies strong attacks still seem to do a lot more, though I'm not sure of that now. I think it must be to do with armour.

Auto-apply oils doesn't seem to be working for me unfortunately. I'll check the mod to see if I'm doing something wrong, but I have started getting into the habit of applying oils now, especially since I've found some stronger recipes (don't have the basic ones though, so can't make them). I'll probably put a bit of effort into grabbing them now, seem useful.

EDIT - Still not using decoctions apart from as health regen. Will go through my list and see if there's anything I could start using more, I see there's one that seems to be a life steal type affair, could be handy.
Several of them are jaw droppingly useful. I use Ekkimara in most fights, The specialist ones for Vampires and Specters are good. Archgriffin allows you to take down enemies several levels above you.

Apparently borked my game with the mods, graphics in the game went wrong, so scanning and scanned and reinstalling some things. Not sure which one it was, but it only all went wrong when I got auto apply oils added.

Will try without the HD graphics reworked for now. Hope I can reinstall the Field of View mod though, liked being able to increase it a bit.

EDIT - Been looking at oils and decoctions more now, will see if I can get into using them more. Need to be careful with toxicity, since I haven't a clue how it works :D.

I'm pretty lazy.

Never use bombs
Never parry
Only use oils/decoctions/potions when trying to tackle something that's above my level and causing issues (killing me)

Do tend to micro manage swords and armour though. Also use the three signs I have levelled in most fights.

Don't use crossbow or bombs so far, might start with bombs. Auto apply oils was for some reason interfering with field of view, creating the graphical issues. Now going auto-apply oils, so that'll happen for me, they seem useful. Have healing potions in place, will see what else there is.

You don't need to auto apply oils. You can access your inventory mid fight and it takes a few seconds. I just wait to see what jumps out at me if I don't know what's ahead.

Don't need the field of view that much at the moment either. Auto apply oils saves me time from working out waht it is in the bestiary, then going into oils, then applying. Haven't fought many monsters in a while though, since i'm wanering around novigrad at the moment (just arrived there).

The world is bloody huge, which makes working out where I should be a bit tough. There's a low level quest a bloody mile away, and yet I'm sure just to get there I'd face a ton of tough monsters on the path (I know I can run away).

Stick to the roads and you'll avoid most red skull enemies and you can just gallop away indefinitely. Unless it's something like an archgriffin or draconid that'll follow you for ages. They're not common, though.

I enjoy just roaming around unlocking new fast travel points, even if there's nothing there that I immediately want to do. Makes it easy to return later for a mission.

Try do appropriate level quests because if you're over levelled you get SFA experience.

I'm trying to do quests that are under the level of my main quest level. But there's 1 that takes me to a completely different big town (with an innkeep I need to play against in gwent), and then a load further past that. I know I'll go back and try and clear up stuff later, but it's a bit overwhelming :D.

The Gwent ones are a bit different. Their difficulty isn't influenced by how levelled up you are. Only thing that affects them is how strong or weak your deck is. Can come back to most of them later (although some have a limit with characters becoming unavailable to play after story points).

Drop into every innkeeper and shop, lots of them sell low level cards to fill your decks and is you beat them they'll give another reasonable card.

Did you beat the Baron? I didn't bother with any of that on my first playthrough. It's surprisingly enjoyable once you get the hang of it though.

Beat the Baron on my second go. The business partner/wife of the dwarf in the barons castle gave me a bit of a tough time for a few rounds. Now there's a blacksmith in Novigrad I just can't beat yet. Monster decks are tough. Going to give it another go soon though, think I'll try and take another frozen ground card in the deck for that fight. Trying to win every game I come across as soon as I come across them, so as to not miss out on anything.

Very satisfying when your last card is a massive play that gives you a slender lead after it looking like all was lost :D.

Finally finished main quest.
Only took 6 months. Lots of ? In Skellige to explore as well as the expansions.

Ending was mostly good but think the pacing was a bit off. That whole stretch from battle of KM is a bit long and tedious.

Decided that I don't care that much about being over levelled for many things, I love the fact that enemies don't automatically scale. I want to feel like a near invincible bad ass when facing poxy street bandits. Love games that don't have scaling, always hated it when you'd built an infamous warrior, capable of slaughtering dragons, but still takes 5 minutes and tactical preparation to kill a few sewer rats etc.

Think I'm finally around ready to move to Skellige, but so much I could keep doing in Novigrad, don't want to push the main quest too fast as I don't want side quests to disappear.

On my 2nd playthrough now in New Game +. Much easier knowing what you are facing with all and fully upgraded weapons, and most sections not taking anywhere near as long to get through. Decided to play this time in Very Light to concentrate more on the story ( not that there is much of one ).

Most quests will start available until the Isle of Mists, which is at the end of act 2, you're only around halfway through act 1!

A few specific ones will fail earlier than that if characters disappear, mostly Gwent ones.

Had a questwhere i needed to talk to cleaver fail on me ( not sure i really understand why but ok). That worried me a bit.

Think I'm alright for gwent at the moment, missed my chance with Lambert though, read I'll get another one.

Gangs of Novigrad. It just offers an alternative way of completing Get Whoreson. Without his gang, you explore Whireson's premises yourself and have to fight in the arena and win some Gwent games, before murdering everyone. With Cleaver you just meet his henchmen outside and run in and murder everyone without any preamble.

I did the simple murdering first time through. This time I looked it up first and did the arena without him and won one of the Gwent games (the murdering everyone part triggers after winning two games). Then went and finished the murder part with Cleaver. He only gives you half the reward, but it counts as completing the mission.

Yeah, you'll meet Lambert in a couple more locations after Skellige.

I'd have done the Cleaver route if I knew it was the straight forward one.

I did the other route. Didn't win any Gwent games though. Started one game and didn't know what I was doing. Quit out of it and triggered something (forget the exact sequence) that just allowed me to murder everyone.

Think there were some dialogue options which triggers the fighting.

On a related note, I presume everyone goes for the same option at the end of the Whoreson quest?

Are there any cheap joysticks with throttles these days? I remember having one and playing x-wing alliance, and I swear it didn't cost all that much! I keep browsing them when thinking about trying out some space sims, but the cost is just insane for something I'm not sure I'd stick with.

Still £60 though!

Bit of a jump back to witcher 3, really beginning to enjoy trying to craft as many of the alchemy things as I can. Though it's a huge cash drain...thought then £4.5k I earned from the high stakes gwent thing would keep me going for a while, but no such luck.

Having the oils and bombs makes a huge difference in combat, obviously breezing through lower level fights, but also going through higher level stuff quite well too. I do wish it was easier to switch/use them though. Need to start using potions more now though, would be nice if they were labelled though, I've got a ton of potions and have to go through them all to see what each one is.

It's worth it at £60 - it's really well built and will last you years. There's nothing cheaper worth getting, and anything of equivalent quality is twice as expensive.

Yeah, but for thinking about playing around in freespace 2 with mods, or maybe the new star wars game, it's a significant investment for something that may not get much use. Still, at least I now know a decent option should I decide to take the plunge.

Sticking with Xplane11 and DCS, for flight simming.
Microsoft flight sim 2020 looks amazing, but not sure they have plans to add VR, or if it will even support my home cockpit stuff..Saitek Panels, Radios, Autopilot and Saitek Yoke etc.

A great hotas is the Saitek (or logitech now) X52 pro.
Mine has lasted nearly a decade.
Great for everything from elite dangerous, to flying helicopters in DCS.
Think you can get them for 100 quid.

The X52 Pro is about £150, so probably outside the budget of anyone except those with large amounts of disposable income.
