One of the key election promises from Labor is a Federal Independent Commission Against Corruption, long overdue. NSW has had one operating for years, set up by the Libs targeting what they perceived as a state Labor party issue which has proven effective at rooting out the rot from both sides. Over 9 years of government, the Liberal National coalition have stacked boards and administrative panels with their mates, ex staff and ousted MPs. It’s been a systematic rorting of the entire nation and a serious threat to an ongoing viable democracy. Just last week saw an open letter from 31 retired, prominent judges outlining the threat and the need for an ICAC.

I can’t wait to see that set up and some of the rot exposed.

I hope to see some changes made to the media ownership laws brought in over the last 10 years or so too… Murdoch needs to have his influence curtailed… well, the country needs that, not him personally. He can rot standing up for all I care.

The other major policy shift should see Australia pivot towards renewable energy at scale and some reduction in carbon output, although the ALP have some strong ties with the mining and resource sector that could prove difficult to negotiate. That will be interesting to watch.

All up an exciting new beginning for Australia and hopefully, a major shift in global emissions reduction.

Short-term, probably not. The issue hasn’t raised its head above the parapets for yonks and would likely be seen by many normal folk as a massive distraction.

A massive distraction is also how an incoming government would view it and hence would put it forward only if a massive distraction is just what the doctor ordered.

Yep. The educated professional vote moving away from Tories to Lib Dems in the south of England is definitely something to look for.
