Indeed, we are a gentle country folk over here in our village.

And seeing that cursed Irish rugby thread on the front page and filling up is giving me nervous twitches. Like when the travellers rock up in town.

Thanks. I mentioned on another thread that I would have been here sooner but for technical difficulties (login issues). Have lurked occasionally.

But I have a new phone and now all sorts of things that weren't working suddenly are (my office authentication app for example), although it could all be coincidence.

I had to get some sun somewhere. Visit sunny Northland they said. Do it in Feb when the weather will be lovely they said. So we left cold miserable Christchurch (were it was 30°C and sunny) to visit the winterless north. Where I'm wearing a Jersey...

The sprog and I had planned to be up that way right now, but after hearing early forecasts about the cyclone we decided to delay it by a week. Considering the likely state of the roads after this, we may have to give it a miss entirely.

I hope everyone there is managing to stay high and dry.

We're supposed to be moving on to Mangonui on Tuesday. Hoping the road will be open. Supposed to dying down here by then.

Watching the reports from the Coromandel and it looks worse there already then what we've had here so far.

It's feels a little like visiting your puritan Scottish in-laws for a funeral wake after cutting short a two week bender in Ibeefa.

PR is the public bar, anyone can get in and it's raucous and multicoloured. This is the members bar. It's more sedate and dignified, but everybody seems to be wearing the same blazer and tie.
