So many great tunes knocked out by Scottish acts in the 80s

Del Amitri

Deacon blue
Dare I say.... Wet wet wet

A really golden era indeed.

Cocteau Twins/This Mortal Coil and anything Liz Fraser.

Teenage Fanclub started in '89 so they just about count. Primal Scream was formed in '82.

Well I've just listened to Tinseltown in the Rain for the first time ever.

Meh, it's no "Happy Birthday" by Altered Images, now there is a pop song.

Although certainly not mainstream, Paul Haig was by far and above my favourite artist of the mid to late 80s.

Pretty much one-hit wonders, The Big Dish. 'Miss America' was 1991 but this was a minor hit in the 80s

And for me there's a second golden age around the emergnnce of Mogwai and Arab Strap. Man, I love Arab Strap. Bob Dylan's not fit to lick Aidan Moffat's boots as a lyricist. Should get a Nobel prize for The Holiday Girl alone, then another one for The First Big Weekend and a bonus one for Daughters of Darkness.

Gonna be in the small minority here but I think the Blue Nile were overrated. Every other band suggested yip all over them.

If you don't listen already, give Grant Stott's vinyl collective a spin on Radio Scotland on BBC sounds, great show with a regular Scottish twist.

Maybe a minority but you're not alone. I've never understood the love for Tinseltown in the Rain, it's miserable pish.

Hipsway, Love and Money, Primal Scream and the Jesus and Mary Chain are some of my all time favourites, but interested that no-one's mentioned the Eurythmics or Bronski Beat yet
