Any hints or tips?

You're always gonna get a 100 different answers on which vpn is best. I've been using Mullvad for a few years now, mainly to download torrents, watch porn and pirate sports streams - I watch every f1/ufc/rugby game while using it, and it's always good. Speeds are good, never had issues with reliability etc. Costs £5 a month and I've got 4 devices using it.

Free ones I'm not sure about, someone else might know. But I've always felt that with vpns it best to just get a decent paid one.

I use VPN unlimited, think it's done by keepsolid.

Got it through stack social for a lifetime subscription on a low price. Been using it for maybe a decade now, even if they cancelled it, it would have been well worth it. Comes with special streaming options that are rotated often to get past geoblocking etc. Worked fairly well for iPlayer from abroad.

https://stacksocial.com/search?cat=477&query=VPN

I'd say lookup reviews for the cheap lifetime subscription options here. Find one that's well reviewed.

When I go on hols I use ExpressVPN, which you can use on multiple devices for the same account.
Eg my phone, my computer and most importantly for overseas my firetv stick which I will plug in to the hotel tv.

However, I notice that some of the streaming apps are picking up some of its UK locations are not being UK.

Edit: just checked and using UK midlands is working for all of them.

There are about 4/5 UK locations you can choose/toggle from.

Quite a few of the services I've used offer upto 5 devices, but that's definitely something to check for! Being able to get at least three devices is very handy.

I've been using NordVPN for a few years. It's decent for me connection-wise but can be a hassle actually logging in from Turkey due to the government's anti-VPN measures (and the app on my phone/Firestick regularly logs me out automatically).

Anyone used SurfShark VPN? Looks to have the best deals at the moment and decent reviews.

Yes, my missus is more clued up on these things and she's had us on SurfShark for a couple of years. It seems to work pretty well, we used it to get round geoblocking on iPlayer when we were in the US last year. My only problem with it is that sometimes the BBC website acts up when browsing for news.

When she and I last talked about it she said it's best to avoid using a free service as they get up to shenanigans with using your IP address to provide their service to other people & have a tendency to sell your data. Remember if you're not paying for a product, you are the product.

Your missus is wise.

In China so use Mullvad, works pretty well. Nord is useless here and Express not much better, though both worked fine in the UK and South Africa.

Mostly used Nord for the last few years. It's been fine.

I also run a VPN on my router at home which, while slower is pretty much immune to any VPN blocking.

I’ve been using OpenVPN PIA for the last 5 years, very happy with, but this year I can’t connect with the 2 main French sites that are showing the RWC (TF1 & France.TV).

Do you recommend VPN unlimited ?

It's worked well for me. Can't really say more than that for it. Allowed me to watch BBC in Israel relatively reliably. And given I bought a lifetime subscription for about £20 I can't complain!

Yeah, I’ve been using it for a while and I’m happy with it. The only problem is that I don’t remember how long I signed up for!

When I was living in China I used Astrill, it was one of the few vpn's that worked properly at all times at high speeds. They also have the option to install it on compatible routers, which I did so all devices at home could run through it. Now use FastVPN here in South Africa, much cheaper, but not as fast as Astrill, but works ok for what I need right now. But if you are willing top pay a little more, I can recommend Astrill over Express or Nord, as it is in a similar price bracket. Pretty much depends what you your main use for VPN will be, streaming/browsing/gaming/business related.

I got VPN unlimited, it’s the only one that passes Fr.tv geo blocking. I tried Nord, express, ghost (very fast) all of them were geo blocked.
The downside from Unlimited, the US servers are a bit slow.

Yeah, not the quickest, but I can't complain given the price!
