All purpose boxing thread.
Sad news that Bernard Hopkins trainer, Naazim Richardson died. He was only in his 50s:
https://www.google.com/amp/s/www.inquir ... utType=amp

He was the prototypical boxing figure whose involvement in the sport gave him a mission and direction that kept him from going down the wrong path. He was a genial man and a pillar in Philly, involved in the grassroots, giving free lessons to the kids. Everyone who has boxed or played any sport knows someone like this. RIP.

Wow.

Dillian Whyte knocked out in the 5th by an unbelievable uppercut. Whyte was winning the fight, was looking pretty comfortable and had knocked Povetkin down twice in the 4th.

Yeah, that was a terrific KO - came out of nowhere. Whyte was all over him at that point and Povetkin had barely fired a shot. I image Anthony Joshua enjoyed the fight.

Yeah, I was saying to my son not 10 seconds before the KO that White was going to start looking to put him away. Famous last words.

So, it looks like the rematch clause is going to be activated and they will fight again before the end of the year. One thing I don't understand is prior to the fight I heard them saying that this fight was to determine who fights the winner of Fury-Wilder 3 but shouldn't they have said pending a rematch? Or is this a case of only White had an automatic shot at Fury/Wilder by winning and since he was considered the favourite they were looking past Povetkin?

The Whyte Povetkin rematch has been set for November although venue TBD. https://www.rt.com/sport/500759-povetki ... announced/

Hope the fight is as good/eventful as the first.

Jees, Chisora is blowing like a 20 stone hooker on her 5th job of the night.

Yep, Usyk should take this comfortably as long as he can avoid Chisora's slow haymakers.

Joseph Parker v Junior Fa coming up in about an hour.

Meanwhile, David Nyika's pro debut on the undercard is just about to kick off.

That’s be close to the worst heavyweight fight I’ve ever had the misfortune to watch. Not sure the result was right either, I think Fa might have been robbed.

That's too bad it was a poor fight, I'm sure it was much anticipated being an all NZ affair.

The Canelo fight was also similarly poor, it was just a tune up fight fot BJS in May but Yilidrim barely threw a punch in 3 rounds and did not come out in the 4th...... It was a clear mismatch but Yilidrim could have at least given some opposition instead of just being a human punching bag.

Yep, it was shit. I've been trying to think of any positives to take from it, but...nah...nothing. It was uninspiring rubbish featuring two above average but limited heavyweights. Can't see Parker getting anywhere near another title challenge after that. He should've ditched Kevin Barry years ago imho.

One more undercard fight to go before Canelo Alvarez vs Billy Joe Saunders...

Very entertaining fight that. In my eyes Canelo was definitely winning (prior to Billys corner pulling him out) but BJS made him work for that victory.

The official scores were a pisstake though, no way was Canelo up by those margins.

Saunders won two rounds, three rounds at most. For once in a Canelo fight the scorecards were fine.

AJ schooled, he was shown up tonight, very limited, he should take his money and retire and enjoy it, he is not good enough to unite the belts

Usyk well on top in the last 2 rounds. Awkward for AJ, but he'll probably get the win on some dodgy scoring.

He's probably laughing his head off.

Its time for the big one.

Right after Wilder-Fury II I thought this a pointless & unnecessary trilogy since Fury had out boxed him most of the first two fights and absolutely dominated him in the rematch.

But now I must admit I am very nervous. The fact that Wilder did not take step aside money tells you how important getting revenge is to him and he's had fully 18 months to go back to the drawing board and try to figure out a strategy to beat Fury.

Then there's the law of average, is Fury really going to have the upper hand three fights in a row? Surely the pendulum is going to swing in the opposite direction eventually?

What on earth does the 'Law of Averages' have to do with a boxing match?
