I remember a few years ago the lack of quality coaches used to be such an issue. Now they are all over the world and in high demand. I thought it prudent to have a thread tracking their successes, failures and movements.

ABROAD

Jacques Nienaber (Leinster) - 2nd in URC, just made the Champions Cup final
Sean Everitt (Edinburgh) - 9th in URC
Franco Smith (Glasgow) - 1st in URC
Johan van Graan (Bath) - 3rd in English Premiership
Johan Ackermann (Red Hurricanes, Japan)
Gary Gold (USA)
Frans Ludeke (Kubota Spears, Japan)
Heyneke Meyer (Houston Sabercats, USA)

LOCAL

John Plumtree* ($harks)
John Dobson (Stormers)
Jake White (Bulls)
Ivan Van Rooyen (Lions)
Jimmy Stonehouse (Pumas)
Hawies Fourie (Cheetahs)

Other than Nienaber, I wouldn't feel very comfortable with any of those names taking over at the Springboks.

Maybe Franco Smith or Johann Ackermans...maybe.

But I don't know how their working relationships are with Rassie and his management team.

I am not so sure.
Why are you convinced.
Their split up was sudden. To me that is a sure sign of something being up

My wife has a best friend and I can't stand the guy. But he doesn't have to be my friend. We just ignore each other and it works fine

There are a massive difference if your wife is friends with het skelmpie. Understand your hate for the guy.

Added Ruan Pienaar too, but let's see how he gets on.

Any big names coaching in Varsity Cup?

And what is Snor up to these days?

Wasn't he trying his hand at being a politician? I recall reading somewhere recently that he was suspended for alleged sexual misconduct.

He's doing very well, he took an admittedly hugely underperforming squad (being honest, he inherited a shitshow) and got them playing well on both sides of the ball - helped by sensible appointments such as Lee Blackett, granted, but he's got everyone pulling in the same direction.

His contract has been extended to 2030, which seems bit premature to me but shows the regard he's held in.

That's incredible.

Nice to see them investing in him. I wonder if he wins the Premiership if he'll suddenly be on Rassie's radar.

Nienaber has stated that the only reason for the break was a desire to spend more time with family.
His family life took a helluva hit over the last 4 years.

While acting as an international coach he is away from his family the majority of the time, and feels like he neglected his family.
When you drop 1 level to URC, you have a home base and only have to travel for a prolonged period for the SA leg of the season.
The rest of the time you get to go home to your family every night and in Europe the away matches are just 1 or 2 nights away from home.

Here's the interview:
It's 5 minutes and I've timestamped it for you.
