My wife had a best of Carpenters cd. Not really my thing but I don't mind; well crafted songs beautifully sung. But for some reason I really can't stand this one, though the original is great.

Smooth criminal - by alien ant farm I think it was.
Sympathy for the devil by Gnr.
Anarchy in the USA by Megadeth.

It's one thing to do an all along the watchtower with a song and make it your own but covering a classic is a bit pointless imo.

This thread has to be sullied by Duran Duran’s ghastly stab at 911 is a Joke

Gotta say - I thought it was great cover. Not really much of a departure from the original except making it bit more alt rocky - but sounded good and a pretty amusing video.

My unacceptable list is usually topped by either Purest Form or Peter Andre covering Split Enz 'Message to My Girl'. Only Neil Finn can carry that sort of emotional schmaltz and make it sound good.

Limp Bizkit - Behind Blue Eyes
David Bowie and Mick Jagger - Dancing in the Street (Worst music video ever - I mean - how do make Bowie look like a dork?)
Puddle of Mudd - About a Girl

Fair enough it's all about opinions but the original is a masterpiece. As a piece of art it's not something that could be improved upon or emulated so it annoys me when they try their own take.

If you want to do a Michael Jackson song it strikes me you pick one of the lesser known ones and give it a shot.

Yeah - I get that. I feel well known tunes connect better when covered. It's why Take on Me by A-Ha has been covered a thousand times - but an equally decent tune of theirs, Analogue (All I Want) hasn't.

I'd be a big fan of RHCP, but actually that All Saints cover didn't piss me off, and in advance I'd have expected it to

I guess, on reflection even a bad cover exposes the original artists music to a broader audience (or a younger generation) and those people might go down a rabbit hole and discover some good music from back in day.

Maybe at least unacceptable for how easily Nina Gordon drops the n-word with her acoustic, folky cover of Straight Outta Compton.

As someone correctly views the Stones as the greatest band ever (after Queen), this offends me on every level

Ha! I think I've heard a country music style version of Boys n the hood before.

Not a cover, but find it almost uncanny valley to the original.
