Saffers Playing Abroad Thread

With the English Premiership starting this weekend, at least we get to see some of our guys plying their trade as we wait for our local rugby to start.

Sale Sharks vs Harlequins will be a good one to watch. Can't find the team yet, but will be good to see the du Preez brothers, Akker, Faf, Lood, AE and Wilco Louw in action.

I heard that AE can't play as he hasn't got his visa yet.

Yep ditto Wilco.

Thanks AF for starting this one, you know the PL the best, keep us up to date.

Understand Kobus van Wyk is also leaving Hurricanes?

Yes I heard the same as well. Something to do with him not completing the English language test requirement because all the places are still closed. Might be the same for Louw as well.

Fuck me

Can't they just test him at the airport?

"Mr Esterhuizen, can you understand what I'm saying?"

"Ja, I know Engels very good. Almost as good as my lekker offloads, soft hands, and gain-line win %."

"Well, that's quite the stamp of approval. Welcome to the UK"

It's standard practice for UK visas if English isn't your first language.

Perhaps they could look at one of the several man of the match interviews to gauge his language skills.

I really like the look of this Sale team. Pity about the #10 and the Sharks parts though.

You can watch Edinburgh and Glasgow and see Duhan van der Merwe and Jaco van der Walt before they become Scottish in November. And Pierre Schoeman before he becomes another jokbok next year.

I'm glad SA has such an abundance in talent to send into the world. Imagine if we could not, we would only have the Kiwi's to contend with.

There are probably nearly as many New Zealanders playing overseas as Saffers.

Not sure if we get this in SA? Will be great to see them play.

Duhan & Pierre were great schoolboy talents.

I think there are more but not many that go on to play for their adopted countries.

Pro14, so given the Kings and Cheetahs are in it, it might be available somewhere?

They're both pretty damn good as adults as well!

EDIT - just checked, Edinburgh v Glasgow is on SuperSport, next Saturday.

It was a very bery bad performance . Griquas play at a better level.
The older brother playing at 10 is particularly shit.
Last week there was an article saying how good he is. On last nights performance he is as crap as he was when he was playing for his Dad
The WP must be happy that they offloaded him onto the Sharks

Only saw the highlights of a few games, but great to see Lood back in action. Sale really should have walked that match with the international pedigree in that team.

Hoohaa was playing for Worcester and was on the end of a hiding.

That's true, but in NZ they've been playing for weeks in front of crowds. I'm sure in a few weeks the quality will improve, although I did hear somewhere that the lack of crowds will (somehow) lead to high penalty counts.

I really enjoy the English premiership rugby. It has become very competitive lately and each team has their own style of playing, marquis players and history.

You are certainly world champion blow hards. Or was that the Irish?

Yes it's your kind of rugby, dour, conservative, brainless, and unimaginative.

No wonder the Germans used you as target practice.......
