The site where you can apply to get into the lottery for tickets is taking applications from 10:00 SA Time today.



EDIT: The below assumption of how it works was incorrect. Credit card details are requested and should you order be drawn a deduction will be made.
Applying doesn't mean buying. You will just be presented with an opportunity to buy tickets at a later point if you application is selected.
If you don't claim your ticket code and buy within a certain period, it goes back into the pool for second round of draws.
So you have nothing to lose really.

With the Cape Town Sevens I've found the best seats to be the middle tier on the West end.
For value, 228 and 205 are your best bet.

By UK standards those ticket prices for the tests are pretty good.

I totally get that and I understand there's other factors like the cost of living to take into account. It was just interest to be honest.

Personally I don't go to test matches in the UK any more as I think the ticket prices are ridiculously high, especially for Murrayfield - for the kind of money they're asking you'd like to be sure of an entertaining game

It doesn't appear so no. You will have to resell the other 2, but I doubt you'll have any trouble doing so.

Tickets here are pretty cheap compared to Europe.

A Newlands ticket for a Rugby Championship clash with the All Blacks is between R500 - R1000, depending on the seat, with cheaper tickets for school kids behind the posts.
So the higher end pricing of up to R3000 is quite a bit more than what we are used to, but having attended the 2nd B&I Lions Test at Loftus in 2009, I know that even that is well worth it.
Glad to see they have made some cheaper tickets available as well

I just applied for my tickets at the FNB stadium and at Loftus. Considering applying for Kings Park as well. I think the FNB stadium would be fantastic to watch the game there if the full 94000 capacity will be allowed.

Meh, too much risk with Covid and other associated travel problems to be shelling out a couple of grand today. I'm out!

The FNB Stadium holds just under 95,000 and is in the heart of Soweto. It will be epic.

Makes sense to have two tests at altitude and I prefer Ellis Park to Loftus for that.

I guess it's all about capacity, using the biggest stadiums for the tests to maximize gate income. Just so happens that the 2 biggest stadiums are in Johannesburg and very beneficial that you have Pretoria and Johannesburg a stone's throw away from each other. So for 2 tests it would be quite convenient that they do not have to do loads of traveling between matches or move hotels. Include the Bulls game at loftus and even possibly the game in Nelspruit and Durban and you look at relatively small travel distances for tourists for 5 fixtures.

Yeah it is basically a year away. so a lot can happen before then. By that time there might be a very effective treatment available for COVID, even if not a vaccine, or the potency of the virus changed to be more like the common flu. Who knows, unfortunately the chances of getting tickets closer to the tour is most probably 0, so people basically have to throw the dice now to get a ticket or not.

From a tourists point of view, there is fuck all to do of interest in joburg, lives up to pretty much every negative stereotype is SA. Durban is a far better option and base for a holiday as their winter beats our summer often, plus can fly (or could pre covid) direct to LHR.

Virus will wipe out the tour for 2021 anyways most likely so it's a not point

My big concern is my Dad. If I get tickets one would definitely be for him, but he is over 60 now, and I'd be hesitant to risk it if the situation surrounding Covid doesn't change drastically between now and July 2021.

There is still general ticket sales phase where I might get lucky, but it’s going to be first come first serve, unless I get into a corporate suite somehow.

I don't really get what you are getting at.

It is my understanding that tickets being sold to Lions fans are more expensive (more in line with what tickets cost up North), but also because they form part of tour packages that include transfers and accommodation and some activities etc.

If European prices were charged to locals we would be priced out completely and the event organisers ideally want close to 50-50 representation of fans in the stands
