Australia snare the Rugby Championship

Early reports in, looking like the bubble will be in NSW. Really poor from the NZR...
Australia is believed to have pinched the Rugby Championship from under New Zealand’s nose, with the four-team southern hemisphere tournament set to be played on this side of the ditch as news emerged that Argentina coach Mario Ledesma had tested positive for COVID-19.
As revealed earlier in the week, Australia had put itself in the box seat to win hosting rights despite New Zealand being the favoured candidate for the six-week tournament pencilled in for November and December. SANZAAR officials held a meeting overnight to discuss who should host the event.
While there has been no official confirmation, sources with knowledge of negotiations said Australia had won hosting rights and that NSW was the preferred destination. It would mean the Wallabies will head to New Zealand first, as soon as next Sunday, to play two Bledisloe Cup matches against the Kiwis before returning for a Rugby Championship on home soil against the All Blacks, Springboks and Pumas beginning in early November.

Not so much pinched, but handed on plate with outbreak of Covid in NZ, and no crowds etc allowed. Brisbane allowing 25000 at Reds tomorrow night, so I find it understandable, and probably ok , RA needs it more than NZ right now. Think if you looking for someone to blame you better point finger at PM and crew for doing the right thing !

Really don't care who hosts it as long as it gets played. Any test rugby this year would be a bonus, so whichever hosting scenario is safest suits me fine.

Yep and with Argos having Covid in their squad can't see them being involved. I agree play anywhere, especially if a crowd of some sort there.

Phil Gifford and his "inside sources" at the NZRU said they fully blame the government for being too strict with quarantine.
Yet the PM said today that all teams were able to train in quarantine after their 3 day test. Given that the Argies and African teams have covid cases, surely this is a sensible measure to take.
Are the Australians going to allow these teams to walk straight off the plane onto the training pitch without even a test?

Ardern
"We put in a huge amount of effort into that bid, worked really hard to accommodate the needs of the tournament and the players, even creating a regime where they could be training within three days of arrival in New Zealand," Ardern said. "If we are not successful, I'd say it would be a result of being caught up in Sanzaar politics.
Wouldn't surprise me in the slightest

Another win for RA! The NZR board should resign for the most incompetence seen since the loss of the 03 WC sub-hosting rights.

So we get to secure the bledisloe at home and then travel for RC?
Fair enough Australia get it, 10x better to have crowds in the stadium and at the moment who knows how long we'll be in level 2

It's a shame we arent playing it in South Africa, but South Africa isn't a real nation is it. Just another rapidly declining third world African shithole.
You pricks haven't even started your season yet. Is it any wonder there has been no talk of hosting the Rugby Championship in the nearly failed state of SA.
You doos have work out how to keep the power going in your cities first. Load shedding. What next. Zuma to come out of exile with a Covid 19 vaccine extracted from minerals in his excrement?
Jokeshop of a third world nearly failed state.

Makes sense to have it in Oz given the timezones. Also, South African are butt-hurt at NZ as they think that they broke up Super Rugby, so would have voted with Australia to hold it there.

Certainly not the NZR, but it would seem this clueless Labour government only allowed the NZR to have 23 ? or was it 25? training in a bubble. The muppetts could not figure how many including coaches etc. are in a squad that would have been in isolation and permitted that number.
Regardless of the Clueless Coalitions incompetence the end point that the NZR was pushing the proverbial uphill was the difference of paying customers in the stadium.
Rugby certainly is the winner but the NZ economy continues to be crippled by these muppets in control. They will let plane loads of Indians loaded with the virus into the country without a pre flight Covid test but a rugby squad that would have had a pre flight test, completed the same isolation at the teams expense and not the Kiwi ratepayers expense, and would have been monitored above what the current incoming are was to difficult for their limited brain cells.

Yes, NZR's diplomacy and negotiating skills have been shown to be terrible. This is what happens when you have an organisation that is all-powerful and used to bullying stakeholders and getting its own way. NZR is used to bullying everyone, from the NZ govt to the provinces, Super Rugby franchises and coaches etc. It's used to getting its own way and having zero accountability. This year it has discovered that it's much harder to bully other national unions.
