Bond - who's next

Just watching the trailer for the next movie, pretty sure this is Daniel Craig's last hurrah. Who's up next? I think Tom Hardy could've been really good but might be knocking on a bit for it now. Probably needs to be some mid to late thirties in two or three years. James Norton, Sam Heughan, Richard Madden? Or just to piss off the Daily Mail, John Boyega?

I’d have loved them to cast Idris Elba, as was rumoured at one point. He’s 47 now though (good age!) so maybe the time has been and gone.

Thandie Newton would break the white male hegemony.
The Guardian says so.

will be irrationally ticked off if it's Tom Hiddlestone. Just do not get why the ladies go so gaga for him, I don't see it and it vaguely irritates me. Everyone swoons over him and yet to me he just looks like a grinny little peanut-headed doofus who looks like Zoolander when he tries to go all "Blue Steel".

This fred is going off on a tangent.

In the current/next movie, Bond (Craig) is retired. 007 is a designation of a position he no longer occupies , and one to which Ms Lynch's character - another agent - has been promoted.

Whether she survives the movie is unknown at this point.

Do try and keep up please.

I read a couple of Fleming's novels many years ago and from recollection the character was I believe a Swiss-Scot. I'm genuinely surprised that the franchise is still going, I have not watched one of the films since Pierce Brosnan retired from the role.

Daniel Craig took the Bond character back to the original book version, so you might enjoy them.

Thanks for the recommendation, I will try and check them out. FWIW I didn't find the newer films or Bond's objectionable per se I just fell out of the habit of going to the cinema and keeping up with Hollywood at some indeterminate point in the 00's.

Casino Royale and Skyfall are good, Quantum of Solace and Spectre not so much.

I think they might stick with Lashana Lynch if the new movie is a success

I honestly think Craig’s Bond is one of the very best.

Possibly too old now but I agree, he would have been a good suave, brooding, manly Bond.

There would, however, have been a whole load of bullshit from the PC Gone Mad brigade about our unfeasibly competent fantasy super spy having an unrealistic skin colour.

There’s a back-story to that. Fleming was still writing the books when the films started getting made, and he really didn’t approve of the studio casting Sean Connery in the role. Until he actually saw Dr No, and he was so impressed with Connery that he wrote in the half-Scottish half-Swiss ancestry in his later books.

At least that’s the story I’ve read. Someone else will probably come along with a Snopes link or similar to say it’s rubbish and the dates don’t match, but hey, it’s a good story.

Idris Elba would make a great Bond, but I’d insist on a role for Alice too if they bother to ask me.

I fail to see the hype about him. I thought that he was beyond wooden in Luther - there is no way that I can see him with the charisma to carry a franchise. He reminds me of early Matthew McConaughey - a perfectly decent actor being shoehorned into lead roles that don't play to his strengths.

What about that Henry Cavill guy from superman & man from uncle films ?
Right sort of age and height and looks for bond.

Aforementioned Tom hardy would be a better villain than Bond imho
