What does he bring to the All Blacks as a right winger?

I thought he had a great SR Aotearoa season, and fully deserves his place in the squad, but he looks like a fish out of water on the right wing. He would be the slowest winger in world rugby, and we aren't even getting any value out of his long kicking game or ability under the high ball. He missed a few bad tackles today, but most worryingly he just lacks the attacking dynamism that someone like Reece or Jordan would bring to the team. Caleb Clarke showed today what impact a dynamic winger can have on a match, and I'd love to see more from our right edge as well.

If Clarke continues to play like that I would love to see Jordan given a go on the other side. With B Barrett at the back that would give different threats across the back three.

I've never been a fan of playing people out of position. Jordie got caught for Korobiete's try by diving in when there was no need. As others have asked... what does Jordie bring to 14? Not a great deal more than an ordinary utility. What does someone like Jordan bring? Let's see... but he does appear to have a lot more upside. Jordie may have to be the resident 15 in waiting.

Jordie is great player, but he's not a winger. As others have said, his strengths are his boot, his size, and his aerial ability - currently those skills are going to waste.

To my mind, Jordan & Reece should be competing for the right wing spot, with Jordie & Reiko competing as the #22 utility, and Jordan/Reece/DMac/Laumape competing for the #23 spot.

Jordie gives it a red hot go, despite not really being a natural right winger.

What is odd at the moment is the fact he is scoring conventional right winger's tries, rather than benefiting from his height or aerial prowess.

Tbh in the last two test he's scored tries that any member of the squad would have scored because his inside men had created space. I agree he is trying hard, but he looks lost on the right wing at times. The confidence that was so visible during SR Aotearoa has disappeared.

Joe Moody would have scored only the second of those two tries.

For me Jordan at fullback, Reece & Clarke on the wings... BB on the the bench... but it's a pet peeve of mine when we move fullbacks to wings.

Jordan (like B. Smith before him) covers wing well but brings more to fullback.

For me, you need pace if you are a winger or a fullback.. which disqualifies Jordie completely from those positions if he ever wants to be considered an All Black... I think he is a Super Flat Track bully.... who will never make the step up to test rugby,... unless he re-invents himself in midfield possibly... where pace is less important...

In saying that he could be a handy bench player covering a lot of positions... and for rainy days...

BB's test career will likely extend to the 2023 RWC. That's a hell of an apprenticeship for Jordie.

BB's test career will likely extend to the 2023 RWC. That's a hell of an apprenticeship for Jordie.

Winger has been the one position the previous coaching team haven't been cautious in blooding in new talent on a yearly basis. For all that he had a great soup season, and has improved pretty much every aspect of his game, JB'll be contesting the long term role at full-back. You can see him being overtaken by someone who ticks a few more boxes as an outright winger. The ABs need somebody who can regularly beat the first defender in tight space like Cory with his fend or MNS with his step.

The concept of a right wing/fullback player, a "rightful" if you will, worked wonders for the ABs in the recent past with Bender, Jane, NMS, even Doug Howlett in the mix. Whoever said it further up the page is right, Jordie has many of the attributes of a fine 15 but none of the pace and dynamism of those other rightfools. Does he even have a sidestep? Would be great to see what the other Jordie can do in black.

I don't think Jordie and Reece are directly competing. I'm sure a Clarke/Reece combo could work, but it's not a million miles away from Ioane/Naholo and that never seemed to quite click at test level. I've said it before, but when everyone's fit I'd have the hierarchy as follows:

'Power' winger: Clarke, Reece, Ioane, Fainga'anuku

Second fullback: Jordan, Bridge, Jordie, Havili

Going forward, I'd like to see the following:

11. Clarke
14. Jordan
15. BB

22. Ioane/Laumape
23. Reece

I though BB played well at FB yesterday, possibly better then he has at 10 for some time. I’d be more than happy to see him stay there on the back of that performance which makes Jordie's selection even harder to support.... to my mind in this set up he’s on the bench or not at all. I want to see speed and agility on the wings, or in the absence of sheer agility then simple brutal domination a la Caleb Clarke

Or Foster's using him in an untraditional role. He's been heavily involved in a lot of of our kick-off receptions, even well infield.

Reece is a specialist 14 and played 14 for most of last year. JB is the current 14. I think they are competing.

This makes no sense at all. Sevu Reece is arguably the most skilled winger in NZ, labelling him a "power winger" is ridiculous. He plays much more like Cory Jane than he does like Julian Savea. So using your logic Damien McKenzie is the next in line for the no.14?

Assuming Clarke as the left locked up, I would expect Dmac on the right wing before I would expect Reece. It’s less a question of skill and more how they play the position. Reece is no fullback.

Edit: Also don’t think Reece is much like Jane. Jane was a fb first, winger second.

Jordie Barrett has been almost flawless in the last two tests. He needs to keep starting.

I think Jordan will get a start/bench if we lock up the bled with a game to spare. Probably not before.

I think he will be the best full back in NZ and a potential WPOY in 2023 so I think he should start and gain experience.
