An Irish match thread without the Irish. Interesting. Might be a bit quiet, but yet pleasant. What’s the word I’m looking for?? Is it “Bliss”?
OP might want to add the When.

Have the Irish not come over here in swarmy numbers? Praise be!

I’m here too.
Is the result as important as the performance? Probably yes for this game but less so next week.

It will be very quiet indeed, as it seems that I am the only Italian that made the jump to the lifeboat

Good to see you. What do you make of the team? Looking forward to seeing the back row in action.

Any new players worth looking out for?

Paolo Garbisi started the championship in the u20s and is now making his senior debut. On the bench, Federico Mori is a big unit for a 20 year old and should (hopefully) have an impact when he comes on. Both guys have made the step up from u20 to senior level very quickly by Italian standards which is hopefully a good sign that the work Stephen Aboud is doing is having an effect

O'Driscoll says that Sergio possibly wouldn't get into the team on merit anymore. Whilst I think there's some truth to this, it's also true that he seems to have rediscovered his form since moving to Toulon, so it's not like he would be unworthy of a place in the team right now

Don't know if it's the case here, but BT have been using sound clips of the crowd from a pre-covid verison of the fixture and stitching it together on the fly. I imagine they've basically got a soundboard marked up for things like "nothing's happening" "maul" "line break" and so on.

Italy their own worse enemy, why try play out that deep?

Enjoyed Nolly pointedly correcting Harrison's typical Sky hyperbole and empty platitudes on why relying on a 13 to cover 9 could cause problems.

We can give the young lad a break on his debut

Sexton rocking nearly as much padding as Habana used to at his worst. I though shoulder pads were knocked back by the IRB?

What’s this review for? The Italian lad was going down under the tackle. It’s not even a penalty.

Barely even a penalty let alone a review.

I’m almost pleased that there’s no crowd here. Imagine paying to watch this. It’s a shite match so far.

Same old Italy. 1 or 2 good phases, even a couple of good backs moves then in this match it seems to be number 8’s job to f it all up.

Someone should introduce the Italian players to one another, and to the rules of rugby.
