Re: The Official English Rugby Thread

Credit where it’s due, they handled that situation pretty much perfectly. Thought Earl was excellent as well as the others mentioned above. Big Q is going to be what they do with Farrell if George keeps playing like this. They'll stick him at 12 and ditch Marchant... Is probably the correct answer!

Sounds like Steve Hansen will go anywhere for a few quid too

I reckon John Mitchell might come in - already with the England women’s team, has been an England coach twice before, has a good record of failing as a head coach - everything the RFU blazers could want!

In-terms of what might have been re England coaching regimes - in a way England messed up by reaching the final in 2007, which meant that the RFU felt it had to keep Ashton (who was just hired on a temp basis for the RWC after Robbo f!cked it) rather than hiring Warren Gatland, who seemed all set to...

Would be very happy for France or Ireland to win their first RWC, but I’m generally one to root for the underdog and have a small degree of Scots heritage, so who better to have as my second team than a team who are likely to get even less far than England, but will at least make an entertaining fis...

Are we worse than the '05 -'11 sides yet? By a country mile. They could defend and try and grind out a win at least and you never saw those teams lose (comfortably as well) to one of the PI nations. Roko was hardly big or lumbering and had decent hands, he had some deficiencies (not the smartest defender, no boot to speak of) but deserved the international caps he got and actually looked like an international wing when he played (unlike Banners or Fiji Joe).

Not that it’s any bad thing in the round but the Italy 6N game only sold out because they gave out tickets to school parties, and there were tickets to be had at face value in the week for both the Scotland and France games, all of which is unprecedented in the recent past. English rugby hasn’t seen such a dirge of talent since the 70’s. What’s striking is how almost all of the players from 2019 haven’t progressed (most have gone backwards) when you’d have backed a good number of that side to become the best in their positions (or thereabouts) in the world. Pretty much all of the team from the final are in the squad and should be at...

They also need to get this tournament right as a spectacle for the European time zone market, given a lot of games will be on prime time terrestrial tv. Wouldn’t have been such an issue to have a slew of reds with games being played in Japan, Oz or NZ, but in France it would be.
