Is American Gods worth watching? Started it a bit too late in the night over the weekend and found it all over the place, but wasn't particularly sharp at the time.

It's OK, is my opinion. Something to watch if there's not much else available. Some fun/good stuff, but not a classic.

Likewise Rhys Darby can be painfully unfunny at times.

Finished Dark season 3 yesterday. Kept expecting it to collapse under its own complexity, but it never really does. Certainly not a series you can watch casually an expect to have a hope of following it. Really enjoyed it overall though

Thought the ending in the third dimension tied it all together really well. Definitely made sense as an ending and was nicely shot.

The one thing that stopped it being truly great TV for me was the lack of real drama for much of it. You have a sense throughout pretty much the whole series until the final episode that everything is on tracks and unfolding exactly the way it needs to to get to Adam (and later Eve). Also, the acting throughout was superb, but the actor playing the teenage Jonas doesn't really carry the role that well for me.

Will come back and read the spoilers later as not quite finished yet but episode 7 "Between the Time" certainly clicked a few things into place.

Finished it yesterday and loved it. The ending of episode 6 is just awesome.
Final episode ties things together pretty well.

Thought teenage Jonas worked well actually. He's supposed to be a fish out of water.

Nah, don't tar us all with the same brush. Gervais is a one trick pony who's schtick got old a long time ago. He's as subtle as a brick through a window.

Pity really cos he comes across well when interviewed, genuinely engaging.

ZeroZeroZero really is excellent, great acting, solid plot, awesome music, cinematography & visuals.
Miles better than over the top bilge like Narcos Mexico or Gangs of London.

I'd be quick to pan Gervais if I thought it was merited, but I actually enjoyed Afterlife and thought it was really well done. It was a subject close to my heart so I was super-sensitive but I thought it was all done pretty well and - dare I say it - I enjoyed it all. I especially enjoyed seeing the 20 square metres of Hemel Old Town it was filmed in, near my old stomping grounds. I'd regularly go to the music shop about halfway down the hill from the 'newspaper offices'.

Also enjoying 'The Politician' atm - quirky satire, star-studded cast, thought it would be far too 'woke' but actually it sends itself up a lot.

Highly recommend Once Upon a Time in Iraq on BBC iPlayer at the moment.

Documentary series covering the invasion of Iraq and the mess that follows. Some really compelling voices, both soldiers and civilians. It can be pretty harrowing, but well worth a watch.

On the other side, I am very late to the party but just finished bingeing The Detectorists on iplayer. Absolute magic, beautifully finished in the final episode too.

Quite enjoying upload at the moment. I got watching Cold case files on Netflix, there's only so much of that you can take and then I tried Norsemen, didn't get through one episode, the putting his finger down his crack and then in man's mouth was enough for me.

HBO’s acclaimed graphic novel adaptation Watchmen leads this year’s Emmy nominations with 26 nods.

The show, based on Alan Moore’s source material, scored nominations for best limited series as well as for stars of the show including Regina King, Jeremy Irons, Jovan Adepo and Jean Smart. With Game of Thrones now over, after it spent the last two years dominating the awards, the show has helped HBO reach 118 overall nods.

Emmy favourite The Marvelous Mrs Maisel follows close behind with 20 nominations, including best comedy and best lead actress in a comedy series for Rachel Brosnahan. The actor, who won for her performance in 2018, faces stiff competition from Insecure’s Issa Rae, Blackish’s Tracee Ellis Ross, Schitt’s Creek’s Catherine O’Hara and Dead to Me’s Christina Applegate and Linda Cardellini.

The other shows within the best comedy category are Curb Your Enthusiasm, Dead to Me, The Good Place, Insecure, The Kominksy Method, Schitt’s Creek and What We Do in the Shadows.

While HBO and Amazon shows lead the way, overall Netflix comes out on top with 160 nominations, up from 118 the year before. It marks the biggest ever total for any network or streaming company. The platform’s biggest success was Ozark, which scored 18, including for best drama and for stars Jason Bateman and Laura Linney. It was tied with HBO’s Succession, the second season of which received nominations for best drama, as well as for stars including Brian Cox and Jeremy Strong.

The two shows face off in the drama category against Better Call Saul, The Crown, The Handmaid’s Tale, Killing Eve, Stranger Things and The Mandalorian, which made a surprise showing today, scoring 15 nominations, a strong start for the first qualifying year of Disney+.

The biggest snubs includes a no-show for the critically acclaimed final season of Homeland, nothing for Pamela Adlon and Better Things, a shut-out for Elisabeth Moss for The Handmaid’s Tale and a lone cinematography nod for HBO’s well-received adaptation of Philip Roth’s The Plot Against America.

The ceremony, which will take place on 20 September, is set to be hosted by Jimmy Kimmel although it remains unclear as to how the ceremony will take place.

The Business of Drugs on Netflix is fascinating. The main presenter is irritating but it is genuinely informative.

I genuinely had no idea that Mombasa is now a major world heroin transshipment centre or that most of the world's meth is manufactured by the rebel militias in Myanmar (almost equal to the official total exports from Myanmar).
