So we play Aus twice and then NZ twice away in 4 consecutive weekends?

Wow...
Boks could lose 7 tests in a row by 2 October.

Love that fixture list. Two warm ups vs the Wallabies , then the two real deciders.

Love this season. Real rugby vs the Lions.

Pumas away will be a real test. If we get it right we'll be in final nick once we meet the All Blacks.

That two tests in NZ is rugby ultimate test. Cant get bigger then that.

It's awesome. Two tough fixtures to start with, but at home. Then 2 games vs Aus, it's away, but we should have the beating of them and should try to play a few second stringers. Then all guns blazing for the All Blacks.

And then every 10th or so post the bot can go:

Team I think will be predictable. Wider squad might have a couple of surprise inclusions though.
Using the 2019 RWC Squad as a base, I'd say:

PROPS:
Kitshoff, Malherbe, Koch.
Nyakane for Beast makes sense.
Thomas du Toit on speed dial.

HOOKERS:
Bongi and Marx.
Schalk Brits went to Japan to fulfill a specific role in the team for a campaign like that.
We need a new hooker to get into the squad. I wouldn't mind Akker vd Merwe...or Dweba if Nienaber is feeling brave.

LOCKS:
If all the RWC locks were fit then it would be easy, but Lood and RG are both in question.
If they don't make the it in time, then Etzebeth and Mostert to start.
But for backup we might see some surprises.
PSdT might have to cover there later on in the game which will be a pity.
Other names in the mix might be Jason Jenkins, or maybe one of the Du Preez twins.
Van Der Mescht's name seems to keep popping up, so maybe he is in the mix too? I dunno. I haven't seen anything that has impressed me yet.

FLANKERS:
Kolisi and PSdT are 2 of the first names on the team sheet.
I think Marcel Coetzee and Marco van Staden will take slots from Kwagga and Flouw.

8th MAN:
Vermeulen to start obviously.
Backup might be a Du Preez twin, but my outside pick would be Jasper Wiese.

SCRUMHALVES:
The RWC trio are still our best and all are fit (for now).
Although I think based on current form, Reinach might edge Herscel Jantjies and bump him off the bench.

FLYHALVES:
Pollard to start, Morne Steyn as backup. There I said it.

CENTERS:
De Allende and Am as starting pair.
André Esterhuizen and Jesse Kriel as backup.
Although I wouldn't be surprised if Cornal Hendricks is selected instead of Esterhuizen. It would give Nienaber more options in meeting transformation targets.

WINGS:
Kolbe and Mapimpi to start. Nkosi in reserve. Don't think we'll have 2 wings in reserve. If needed, Kriel will maybe get deployed there as cover.

FULLBACK:
Willie le Roux, flakey as he may be, is a bit of a talisman and wildcard player we need. Hopefully he can keep the error rate down.
From the RWC squad Galant is still out with a knee injury and Willemse hasn't been on form for ages. Don't really care if either are left out of the mix to be honest.
Wouldn't mind if Fassi was kept on speed dial and kept in the loop, but helluva risky to blood a player against the Lions. Hopefully it won't come to that.

Frans Steyn as the utility player backup to cover 10, 12 and 15 in a pinch; although I doubt Rassie and Nienaber are going to pull the 6/2 bench trick again.
I think you want Frans Steyn, Morne Steyn and a scrummy on the bench to nail any last minute match winning conversions/penalties/drop goals.

Quality Blake

I don't see the squad being far from what you've proposed, but I'd say the following:

PROPS:
Same as yours, but I'd have Ox ahead of Trevor. Just think he offers more and he's been consistently good for the Sharks and regularly sees out the full 80 minutes and that sort of fitness is going to be needed agains the Lions.

LOCKS:
I like vd Mescht but I think he's still a year or two away from higher offers. Looks unfit at the moment, Sharks need to sort out his conditioning.

FLANKERS:
Agreed, but I think Coetzee could be a gamble as he hasn't played much. I wonder if Hando Liebenburg could a wildcard for backup.

FLYHALVES:
I reckon Elton will edge Morne for the bench spot.

CENTRES:
As much as I like AE, I think that red card has ruled him out of contention. Based on form I think Similane is starting to push Am for the 13 jersey.

WINGS:
Definitely Kolbe and Mapimpi. Maybe Tyrone Green as a wildcard.

I'm worried about Frans Steyn though; not playing any rugby and wasn't in great shape for the Cheetahs. Let's hope he's been looking after himself.

I like the idea of springing a couple of surprises in the team, especially as our WC team are so well known to the Lions team by now. Remember what Brussow did and he came out of nowhere.

I think Nienaber and Rassie will be careful in capping players against a team as formidable as the Lions.
It takes time to get players aligned with the Boks' defensive patterns and gameplan. They are a tight unit after Japan and it's going to be tricky for "outsiders" to gel.

I therefore think that any outside picks will probably form part of the wider squad.
Where to give them opportunities is going to be the challenge. The warmups against Georgia will be needed to get the rust off.

So the the only real opportunity to see if they have adapted to the systems, is a baptism of fire in the SA A match 10 days before the first test.
Time was always going to be our challenge.

Yep, it might be the thing that counts against him in the end. We need to be very disciplined against the Lions. Brutally physical to break them and disrupt their continuity, but all within the laws.

Can’t have a Sony Bill-like red card that hands them a test on a platter. Luckily we aren’t lacking for hard-carrying, hard-hitting loosies in this country.

I just like Wiese; but he is going to have to get his discipline sorted if he is going to be a contender for Duane’s jersey after he retires.

I suppose anybody is eligibilible?

In the past the SA A team was useful to “lock down” players for the Boks and make them ineligible for other countries for a longer time…but my understanding is that the u20 team is our “designated second team” so that doesn’t really matter.

I’m not even sure who the coach is going to be; but I hope that the SA A game is used to give as many backup players as possible a final run through to ensure they’re up to speed with the Erasmus/Nienaber gameplan.

We are going to need them to slot into the main team without friction if needed, and give us some depth going into The Rugby Championship.
