Best would be a much shorter list.

You can't bring up Harrison and not Barnes.

Also - Guscott and Woodward.
Lesser offenders - Dallaglio and Monye, both spout some utterly gormless rubbish during Prem games.

Dowie Morris is comfortably worse than Barnes or Harrison.

Indeed.

I enjoy listening to the Kiwi commentators in general. Keith Quinn and Murray Mexted were my favs.

Best across any sport is Michael Johnson, superb analyst and commentator.

Best in rugby: Andrew Cotter.

Worst in rugby: Jiffy and Alphonso

This, but not this. Jiffy is a legend and anyone who thinks otherwise is just jealous that he's not rooting for their team.

Jiffy has one of the most annoying voices in broadcasting and serves up commentary weaker than some random pisshead propping up the bar. He and all the geriatric BBC crew need to be cut loose. That said he was good value on House of Rugby, if he could bring a bit more of that to his commentary he'd maybe get a chance to redeem himself.

Andy Nicol is a crap pundit and embarrassingly one-eyed, but given that this appears to be the norm nowadays, I won’t apologise for him.
It is in truth not for glory, nor riches, nor honours that we are fighting, but for freedom - for that alone, which no honest man gives up but with life itself.

Grant Nisbett always mixes up Māori and Polynesian players.

“And Patrick Tuipulotu scores a wonderful, length-of-the-field try! Great try Patrick Tuipulotu!”

(After third replay) “Oh, wait sorry, it’s Sevu Reece”

The other thing that gets my goat about Nisbett is how he only ever comments on one thing: pace. “Rieko Ioane, showing his pace! Wait, no, sorry, it’s Mark Telea, is it?”

Honestly, “pace” is the only thing he notices.

Not the worst broadcaster, but for me the most painful moment on TV was after the 2011 RWC final, interviewer Ian Smith went up to losing captain Thierry Dusautoir and addressed him on camera as “Thierry Henry”.

There are so many bad ones (and not just confined to rugby - the NRL is even worse).

I always hated Keith Quinn growing up, but it's gotten to the point I would almost accept him back.

If I had to choose one that grinds my gears, it would probably be Willie Lose.

As an interviewer, Jeff Wilson asks a question and then gives a long-winded answer himself, leaving the interviewee with nothing to say.

I think it's time for Nisbo to enjoy his retirement.

Aside from this, he often gets ref's calls wrong that are in plain sight for the viewer.

[Ref motions for knock on]

Oh wow! Penalty! Woah that's a bug ducusion! Lets see if they'll go for goal from here!...oh no, wait...no, it's a knock on.

I don't mind Wilson as a commentator / pundit but does he have to be so fucking serious? He seems to be a very intense man.

I'd love to see him lighten up and rip the absolute piss out of someone.

I was being a bit tongue in cheek as there are some great female commentators and pundits - Alex Scott on Match of the Day is brilliant. But I have to say I can't stand the woman cricket one, I can't listen to it.

Also, Maggie Alphonsi is rubbish.

Commentators - don’t mind most of them, but do miss Nigel Starmer smith who was my preferred commentator even above Bill McLaren, who was great but used to get certain names wrong (eg Martin Johnston).

Don’t mind jiffy and his insane “Numbers !” Call outs. Prefer Brian Moore though, especially when he gets so mad and you hear him rip off his headset.

SA have this awful droning chap, Hugh blaydon? Awful voice - irish have another droning chap whose name I forget.

Pundits - they are all pretty shit, I don’t mind dewi Morris but it’s amazing how one eyed certain ex players can be, or how boring (Nicol, Lol, castagne, any saffa, Bod)

Worst was Phil vickery, said nothing then “ that - is - a - scrummmmmmmmm”

The messed up thing is that in between his micro skills and yes boy! He actually puts out some great analysis on how things play out / why defenders ended up in no man's land. It limited but far better than a lot of others.

Nisbetts time should be done, remember one game where Kaino had one of the greatest games of all time, he carried the ball somehow got out of the ruck then carried again, to then get out of that ruck and carry down the wing, turn the ball over and put in a thumping tackle on the other side of the field.

The most amazing thing is he did all this while sitting in the stands injured

NZ - Enjoyed Nisbett, but time to go I think. TJ is good value.
Aus - Sh1t, all of them, even Kafer.
SA - Pearce is good, Stransky and Shimange as well. Nkumane, Capastagn horrible.
The Welsh commentator with the awful voice, sh1t.

I find him more torpor inducing, which is a different sphere of awful also inhabited by Phil Vickery whose flirtation with commentary seems to have been blessedly brief.

So I squares up, casual like.

Mitchell and Guha are both very good, don't know ERB. TMS team is generally pretty strong at the moment. Carlos is great for WI stuff - think I missed him reading out the Shipping Forecast unfortunately. Botham is the very worst for cricket; just the fact that people have to use his titles. What a tit.

On rugby, I'm a secret Jiffy fan. At least he shows his passion for the game - you can hear his sighs and groans even when he's trying to keep off-mic. Same with BCM. Guscott should be taken out the back and shot, along with LBND, Woodward and BOD. Barnes should be shot before going out the back, on live TV preferably. Wilko's fine, but sounds a little bored. Jiffy Jnr was pretty good last season.

Nick Mullins and Ryle Nugent I find annoying. Cotter can be mildly irritating sometimes too.

Another vote for Barnes here.

The absolute worst though (and they have been mentioned) are the pundits that get wheeled out every tournament, despite it being clear they don't actually watch any rugby in their spare time. Woodward and Guscott for a start.

At least you get the impression Jiffy is actually a fan of the game.

Edit - And agree, the TMS ladies are generally very good
