A thread to post and or discuss miscellaneous music videos with the accent on analysis/appreciation or pure entertainment, on musical instruments / bands of any type of music you wish.

I love this guy, as a classical composer gives quite deep analysis and naturally he focuses on more complex genres like prog rock but his reactions to what the songwriter is doing and their compositional skills can be fun - as well as instructive for anyone trying to write tunes beyond circle of fifths and triads.

Also Davie504 has some pretty entertaining videos, mostly concerning the bass guitar

Love this too, how much he enjoys turning a simple(ish) drumbeat into increasingly awesome grooves

I like Davie504's reaction when Charles Berthoud played this -

Chris Jack, 67 test All Black - "I was voted most useless and laziest cunt in the English Premiership two years on the trot"

Rick beato is great, his music theory book is well worth it, my only criticism is his constant whinge about copyright claims (when he uses these videos to sell his music theory book) are getting boring.

This is Steve Vai, playing guitar better than most people on the planet, one handed, with a shoulder that has just been operated on in a sling, and his wrist bandaged up from other surgeries,

Yep, Beato does plug his book but then again there is quite a bit to learn from the free videos.

More fun...

Not sure which is more impressive, the drumming itself or the fact a 13yr old Japanese girl is playing 30s classic "Sing, Sing, Sing." Gene Krupa definitely played on one version of this.

My brother does too, Globus. He used to socialise with some of them in London in the early noughties, and also did a bit of promo work on their tour of Aus about 10 years ago, iirc. A fun bunch, apparently.

They are great. Their performance at the Sydney Opera House was excellent. They were at the Cambridge Folk Festival and the BBC proms.

Very sad when Kitty Lux died.

A must in the British Virgin Islands and when painting and decorating.

My puny Roland TD-30 cannot produce that sound but at least, I don't annoy the neighbours.

Was wondering if I should put up "Bitches Brew" by Miles Davis.

I had the album around almost 40 years ago.

I liked it then, but a bit later I became aware of the melancholy that is part of that scene, and it put me off. I still like the individual musicians, they are giants in Brit Folk terms.

I watched half of the Genesis first post on this thread, again the melancholy does me in, but from a theory side of things it's very good.

I really don't get music listening or appreciation on any level anymore.

If you pick up a guitar, and say learn the BMajor scale all over the neck, ( a couple of months work) and then learn to improvise with it to a backing track, it is far far more fun, enjoyable and rewarding than listening to anything.
Having a guitar in your hands and trying to make it your plaything, man, it is just the best feeling around.

Guess it is the same with people who paint, they don't visit lots of art galleries, they just paint and just love expressing themselves through their art form.

This mad fucker mobile DJ just enjoying the shit out of life.
This video is a walk around Brighton I think.

There’s some other blokes riding around on bikes and a couple others with the same gig but this guy is just into it and on it.
