The PRO14 Rainbow Cup SA match between the Emirates Lions and DHL Stormers, scheduled for Cape Town Stadium on Saturday, has been cancelled in line with COVID-19 protocols.

The decision was taken as part of prescribed precautions advised by the National Institute for Communicable Diseases (NICD) to limit the risk of further infection in the rugby community.

The decision was triggered on Friday following receipt of positive results from scheduled testing of the Emirates Lions squad. As determined by the competition rules, the DHL Stormers will be awarded four log points because of the cancellation.

“The Emirates Lions have followed all protocols and taken all the appropriate steps,” said Jurie Roux, SA Rugby CEO.

“While the cancellation is unfortunate, their approach ensures that the risk of cancellation of their match against the British & Irish Lions in the Castle Lager Lions Series on 3 July is well managed.”
W3 all know that SARU will go to any lengths to forward WPs interest. Especially if they are paying half the salaries
Funny how you switched this Covid excuse. When the Sharks couldn't pitch against the Stormers you had the opposite story about it.

But then it's Sards kak per usual.

Nope, it's the Rainbow Cup and the rules is made by the PRO14 tournament directives. Nothing to do with SARU. This is valid for the NH teams aswell.

Each tournament has different directives because they had different organizers. The Covid rules for each tournament were communicated ahead of time so all teams knew the consequences.

The Lions and Sharks have been the 2 worst teams in SA when it comes to players maintaining isolation. Each has had at least 2 Covid outbreaks as far as I know. You are definitely supporting the right team, they seem to be taking covid as seriously as you do.

Great turnover by Marcel Coetzee. Playing his heart out for a spot in the Bok squad today. Wishing him luck. He was very unlucky to miss out on RWC selection.

We've abandoned back play in this country completely at a senior level. All second phase ball goes to a forward at first receiver or is hacked ahead by the scrumhalf.

I am so happy we didn't play Super Rugby against Aus or NZ. Both would have creamed our sides.

I think some of the refs calls would be extremely frustrating if I was on the field, compounding the frequent knock-ons and slapdash play by both teams.

There haven’t been any other Covid cases among the South African Raindow cup teams this tournament. There have however been a couple of incidents among some of the Northern Hemisphere teams and the non- infected team got awarded 4 points…which is why the winner of this match is going to play Italian side Benetton in the final.

Shows how little you are actually following rugby that you are unaware of this.
