I don't hate it, as long as the refs are sharp on entry and collapsing once it's a maul, which is why I prefer they clearly call it.Paddington Bear wrote: Wed Jul 07, 2021 10:12 am Collapsing maul turnover rule is so poor. France make 10 yards, ball would have been playable with a call of 'release' with a scoring opportunity, instead it's Australian ball. Disincentivises attacking rugby
Gorgeous try there.

Unsurprising that happened, considering that forward passes were basically not refereed in Super Rugby AU
Hard to tell, but looks like Slipper is boring in like a goodun.
Only just started, but it'd be nice if the Ref used a bit of French. Think the main one would just be Lache (think that's the spelling), basically release I believe. It's one of the most commonly needed words and can be applied in plenty of situations.

Thing is though, if the ball could be easily played the ref should make sure it is. If there's a proper pile then I have no issueRaggs wrote: Wed Jul 07, 2021 10:14 amI don't hate it, as long as the refs are sharp on entry and collapsing once it's a maul, which is why I prefer they clearly call it.Paddington Bear wrote: Wed Jul 07, 2021 10:12 am Collapsing maul turnover rule is so poor. All international refs should know the French 'command words'. Not too difficult.Raggs wrote: Wed Jul 07, 2021 10:23 am Hard to tell, but looks like Slipper is boring in like a goodun.

Glad the ref called France out in that maul, since he missed a multitude of offences in the previous one.
French defence is looking good, just needs to calm down a smidgeon to stop giving the offside pens, they don't need to go to quite that extent to be successful.

What about Spanish (Argentina), Italian & Japanese?Paddington Bear wrote: Wed Jul 07, 2021 10:28 amAll international refs should know the French 'command words'. Not too difficult.Raggs wrote: Wed Jul 07, 2021 10:23 am Hard to tell, but looks like Slipper is boring in like a goodun.

Might be simpler to have one set of command words used universally that all players know.
Wha daur meddle wi' me?
I'd be fine with that. But yes, I'd expect refs to know key words in Spanish, Italian and Japanese now. Given these teams are at the top table.Mahoney wrote: Wed Jul 07, 2021 10:46 amWhat about Spanish (Argentina), Italian & Japanese?Paddington Bear wrote: Wed Jul 07, 2021 10:28 amAll international refs should know the French 'command words'. France is a much more important rugby nation than the others, and unlike the others a player can come into the French set up never having needed to understand English in a rugby context.Mahoney wrote: Wed Jul 07, 2021 10:46 amWhat about Spanish (Argentina), Italian & Japanese?Paddington Bear wrote: Wed Jul 07, 2021 10:28 amAll international refs should know the French 'command words'. The universal command word is fine, but there's no doubt France get on the wrong side of refs who communicate more widely with the opposition than they are able to.
Feel they're being ridden a little by the ref here today, on topic.

Jesus France. This failure to close out close games is starting to become something that will haunt them. Awful stuff.

That was feckin' nuts. Such poor decision making from France.
But fun for the neutral though.

Recently France have blown leads against England, Scotland and Australia. England at least we scored a half decent try, the other two were created by utter braindead French play (and then finished off very professionally). It's the main thing standing between them and being a genuine contender.

To put it all in perspective wasn't that a shadow France XV that nearly beat a first choice Australia?Paddington Bear wrote: Wed Jul 07, 2021 11:57 am Recently France have blown leads against England, Scotland and Australia. Certainly, my point is more about the mental side. Another tight game, another loss. I reckon it'll start to knaw at them a bit, and will keep sides in games that they'd otherwise give up.SaintK wrote: Wed Jul 07, 2021 1:59 pmTo put it all in perspective wasn't that a shadow France XV that nearly beat a first choice Australia?Paddington Bear wrote: Wed Jul 07, 2021 11:57 am Recently France have blown leads against England, Scotland and Australia. Only 1st choice selections were Villiere and Penaud, and, as I have pointed out, Penaud's been rubbish since his return from injury and seemed to be suffering the malaise that affected the entire Clermont squad.SaintK wrote: Wed Jul 07, 2021 1:59 pmTo put it all in perspective wasn't that a shadow France XV that nearly beat a first choice Australia?Paddington Bear wrote: Wed Jul 07, 2021 11:57 am Recently France have blown leads against England, Scotland and Australia. Retarded end to the game.

In other news the Tunisia team were denied permission to travel to Zimbabwe by their own government and so are out of RWC qualification, Zimbabwe will now play surprise package Burkina Faso twice to determine who are the group winners and runners up for the quarter-final draw. Morocco never had the chance as their Federation is a total shitcart that can't get their house in order wrt corruption and maladministration. This leaves Algeria as the north's only representatives in their pool with Uganda and Ghana.
