Old men forget: yet all shall be forgot, But he'll remember with advantages, What feats he did that day
Braced to the body, only foul play if it's a strike away from the body.
Frustrating thing about the red card is there's no way the TMO picks it up without the ridiculous French play acting. It was a red, he did hit him high with a large amount of force, but it's also rewarded some pretty grim simulation.
Anyway, coaches need to expect brains more than insane "commitment". Fewer players racing in from thirty yards just to try and smash someone regardless of body height and safety would be a good thing.
Aussie commentators are both ill informed and very bitchy, which is funny

The no.8 bent down. There was mitigation.
I'm all for player safety but rugby is a contact sport. There will occasionally be contacts with the head.
He didn't drop much. If he was bolt upright he still gets hit in the chest. Every player drops height a little bit when they carry or brace for contact - it's not an excuse. The height drop mitigation is for situations when a player suddenly drops or slips, not for the thing that happens in 95% of contact situations and should be anticipated by the tackler.Kawazaki wrote: Sat Jul 17, 2021 10:40 amJM2K6 wrote: Sat Jul 17, 2021 10:35 amBraced to the body, only foul play if it's a strike away from the body.

If he'd tried to take him waist high or thigh high, he doesn't smash the guy in the head.
Everyone also drops after catching a kick. Still felt yellow would have been a fair result, but red was always a possibility once he put himself in that position.JM2K6 wrote: Sat Jul 17, 2021 10:45 amHe didn't drop much. France really should've scored from that line break. Butchered.
That's twice Hooper has cynically cheated when the French have broken through and are very close to the line. He should have had yellow the first time, but it came right after the red so the ref probably felt sorry for them.
Raggs: yeah, I could see why a yellow could have been given. They do frown on the "line them up from thirty yards and fly into a high tackle" more than most, I feel

Seriously fella, trying playing the game first, at any level.
Thanks, I have. Maybe you should read literally anything about the danger facing the sport with brain injuries.Kawazaki wrote: Sat Jul 17, 2021 10:54 am

Such a shame, that was a brilliant down the tramline from jaminet. How quick is Thomas? Don't think I've ever really seen him at full speed in open field.
Terrifying pace. Not sure how the ref missed like three knock ons at the time, mindsockwithaticket wrote: Sat Jul 17, 2021 10:55 am Such a shame, that was a brilliant down the tramline from jaminet. How quick is Thomas? Don't think I've ever really seen him at full speed in open field.
Think he caught the Wallabies one, just not the French ones.JM2K6 wrote: Sat Jul 17, 2021 10:57 amTerrifying pace. Game ruined btw.

There's very little empathy with what actually happens at collisions. If rugby wants to totally eliminate ALL head collisions them it has two routes it can follow; 1. Make all rugby touch/tag rugby only, 2. Cease playing all forms of rugby.

Right, I'm going to miss the rest of this unfortunately. Shame it's so ruined so far. Full half of ruined rugby with no interest, intrigue or fun to watch.

Actually, this makes me far happier with red. He lowers earlier than I thought, and Koribete just smashes through him regardless.
Yes of course, judging a slow motion replay at if it's real time. That's a good one.
Confused why you are referring to a deliberate action lined up from thirty yards by a player with a clear view the entire way, on a near static opponent, as a "collision". It was a tackle, and a bad one. Koroibete made a really bad decision to try and hit high on the chest while flying in at full pace, and ended up hitting his opponent in the head. It's really that simple - anyone who's played the game knows that players will dip for contact, and tacklers must take that into account. Koroibete was too interested in putting in a big hit to consider player safety.Kawazaki wrote: Sat Jul 17, 2021 10:58 am

SBW demonstrating his intellectual heft while discussing the card in the studio
So much "I'm all for World Rugby protecting the players, but..." from the whole broadcast team it seems.
I really don't care if Aussie rugby union goes to the wolves if they're just going to whine forever about anything that doesn't go their way.

Same. Obviously won't be too much of a loss given the total absence of a decent contest. Enjoy the game, chapsRaggs wrote: Sat Jul 17, 2021 10:59 am Right, I'm going to miss the rest of this unfortunately. Shame it's so ruined so far. I’ve only seen the slow-mo video, to be fair, but that’s not a tackle, it’s a shoulder charge. That’s already illegal - there’s no attempt to wrap, his arm is at his side - and although I have a small amount of sympathy because the main impact was to the upper chest, players just need to stop doing this.
It is in truth not for glory, nor riches, nor honours that we are fighting, but for freedom - for that alone, which no honest man gives up but with life itself.

As I said, you get empathy from actually playing.
